This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-liftorbital launch vehicle capable ofroutinelycarrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar,and beyond.Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designedfrom the beginningto be human-capable.

As part of a small, hardworking, and accomplished team of specialists, you will be responsible for avionics controller product verification for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of avionics engineering product development; architectural definition and hardware development (design, verification, and qualification). You should be comfortable working in fast-paced and often uncertain environments, contributing to innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. You should have the desire to learn from new challenges and the problem solving and communication skills to work within a highly interactive and experienced team. RELOCATION ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE for candidates relocating to an approved Blue Origin location.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Responsibilities:

  • Own verification execution of avionics embedded controllers, including product and system integration support, bring-up and debug activities.
  • Plan and execute verification tests for flight qualified avionics embedded controllers that control various subsystems on New Glenn rocket such as electromechanical/electrohydraulic actuators, sensors, etc.
  • Support testing at the integrated assembly level in extreme environments of radiation, temperature, vibration, and EMI/EMC per MIL-STD-461 and DO-160 standards.
  • Apply technical expertise to problem solving throughout product lifecycle, including concept, definition, design, verification (power-on, functional / acceptance / qualification testing) and release to production.
  • Support stakeholders with requirement definition, design reviews including test requirements and plans, procedures, schedules, etc.,
  • Support controller risk analyses, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), design for test/manufacture/cost (DFx), and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with avionics subsystems to identify current technology capabilities, challenges and develop solutions for continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. in electrical, computer engineering or related field.
  • Direct hands-on experience developing and testing complex electronics.
  • Passion for hands-on problem solving and avionics integration and test.
  • Ability to work independently on rapid development programs.
  • Ability to travel to and work at remote sites for extended periods supporting test and hardware integration, commissioning, and training.
  • Highly organized, safety and quality conscious, with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Graduate degree in related engineering or technical field.
  • Experience developing and testing complex electronic systems combining hardware, firmware, and software.
  • Experience developing and testing real-time embedded systems with a focus on modular and extensible architectures.
  • Experience testing hardware to MIL-STD-461 or similar environmental standards
  • Experience testing safety and mission-critical systems (automotive, aerospace, medical, etc.) aligned with DO-254 or similar standards.
  • Proficiency with scripting; programming and analysis/modeling tools: Python, Linux/Windows shell scripting; assembly language, C, C ; MATLAB / Simulink / SPICE (or similar).
  • Experience using Altium/Cadence OrCAD / Allegro (or similar tools) to design complex aerospace boards.
