Title: Cardiac Sonographer General
Responsibilities:
Performs echocardiograms and stress echocardiograms
Identifies each patient and reviews each patient s requisitions in Epic for consistency of exam ordered with clinical diagnosis and all demographic information.
Records pertinent data i.e. medical history and preliminary findings for Cardiologists review in EPIC and MERGE
Reviews each examination for technical accuracy and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
Coordinates and assists in all activities performed in Cardiology department.
Demonstrates the ability to cope with and manage change
Maintains equipment and scan areas in proper working condition. Reports malfunctions and necessary repairs to supervisor and cardiologists.
Performs clerical and transporter responsibilities as needed.
Establishes and maintains a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all departmental staff, hospital staff, patients, families and hospital visitors.
Provides patient education to patient and/or family.
Demonstrates the ability to organize patient care and set priorities to ensure the completion of work assignments.
Ability to be on call for after hour studies as needed.
Other information:
Completion of didactic coursework from an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program.
Completion of 60% of required clinical hours in an accredited Cardiac Sonography Program.
Registry or registry eligible with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). If registry eligible, must obtain certification within first 6 months of employment.
Competent and proficient in Transthoracic Echocardiography
Demonstrates good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Working knowledge of the IT systems that support the modality
Ability to identify and flag abnormalities
Ability to deal efficiently and courteously with all hospital personnel.
Verbal and written skills necessary to facilitate communication with a variety of personnel.
Ability to maintain confidential information.
Physical ability to do repetitive hand motion for scanning 80% of the work day.
Visual requirements for computer work 80% of the work week.
Full body mobility to assist patients to and from Echo room. 60% of the work day.
