At Someburros our Familia loves the opportunity to serve our guests the Sonoran Style Mexican Food that has been most loved in the Valley since 1986. And do we sell a lot of burros, tacos, and beans. So much so that now we need someone to manage all the people counting these burros, tacos, and beans. Now calling all “master bean counters” for the opportunity to join the Someburros Familia as Controller.

 The Controller of Someburros is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely completion of accounting records as reported to the CFO. In this role, the Controller will manage the accounting staff and work closely with the Someburros operations team to ensure that the restaurant’s accounting tasks are completed.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Oversee the activities of the Someburros Family Office accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial reports.
• Oversee and coordinate the monthly close process.
• Develop a daily, weekly, and monthly checklist to ensure all necessary income and expense entries are made before closing the month.
• Develop a daily, weekly, and monthly checklist to ensure the balance sheet is up-to-date and accurate.
• Ensure that General Managers are completing restaurant daily, weekly, and monthly accounting tasks.
• Oversee the activities of accounts payable to make sure that invoices, credit card receipts, paid-outs, and other forms of payment are inputted accurately and paid on time.
• Oversee the activities of accounts receivable including daily credit card deposits, cash deposits, third-party delivery, and other A/R sources.
• Oversee, review, and approve monthly reconciliations of all bank accounts (30 ).
• Manage the tracking and accounting of all fixed assets.
• Manage annual financial review activities with outside CPA firm.
• Assure all local, state, and federal government reporting requirements are met to complete and pay sales taxes, property taxes, and federal taxes.
• Consistently identify best practices to increase efficiency in the accounting department.
• Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and people.
• Respond to given tasks by the CFO with accurate and timely work to facilitate financial needs.
• Maintain accounting records for the company’s real estate entities.
• Manage new restaurant construction budget, payments, and lien waiver collections.
• Keep a daily cash balance record with current bank balances and payments/checks in transit.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

• Ability to translate accounting reports to non-accountants.
• Mind of a teacher - Doesn’t just create procedures, effectively teaches them.
• Can lead a team through “trust but verify” methods.
• Excellent communicator – Thoughtful yet to the point.
• Understands how to get people to do something for them through positive reinforcement and means.
• Ability to work well with other departments and have empathy for their time and skills.
• Highly detailed (pennies, not dollars)
• IT savvy
• Impeccably ethical 
• Although Someburros is growing, we still pride ourselves on an entrepreneurial spirit. We want someone who sees no task as too small or is afraid to get their hands dirty in accounting work.

Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
• Minimum of 5 years of accounting professional experience
• Experience managing other accountants
• GAAP knowledge and financial reporting technical skills
• Experience within the restaurant industry is preferred but not required
• Advanced MS Office skills (PowerPoint, Excel, and Word)
• Experience with Restaurant 365 and Toast POS is highly preferred but not required
• Knowledge of or connection with the restaurant industry 

Work Schedule: 

• Full Time, 40 hours per week (or whatever hours are necessary to complete the job)
• Monday – Friday
• In/Out times are flexible but must be in the office between 9am – 3pm

Salary Description:

$70,000 - $90,000 DOE
