Summary:

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for the reconciliation of numerous general ledger accounts, with a focus in asset and liability accounts. The Accountant will perform various month-end close tasks, support financial statement consolidation activities, support the Accounting Supervisor, Accounting Manager and Vice President of Accounting through investigation of monthly budget-to-actual variances, and assist with providing the information/support needs of internal departments and external audit firm.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute towards the completion of monthly consolidated financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system, with a focus on asset and liability accounts.
• Perform monthly cash, petty cash and balance sheet reconciliations, with an emphasis on standardization of reconciliation presentation and prompt resolution of discrepancies.
• Participation in all activities related to the monthly close process, including accurate & timely preparation of journal entries supported by well-documented schedules or reconciliations.
• Support the Accounting Supervisor, Accounting Manager and Director of Accounting through timely review of accounting transactions and significant variances to ensure the proper accounting treatment was applied.
• Aid in the compliance of policy & procedures.
• Preparation of supporting schedules for annual financial statements and external audit.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, or AA in Accounting with relevant work experience considered.
• 2 years of general ledger accounting experience, including journal entries, roll-forwards, consolidations and reconciliations.
• Understanding of GAAP.
• Extreme attention to detail, high level of professionalism, and excellent communication skills.
• Strong proficiency with MS Excel.
• Normally requires no instructions on routine work, and general instructions on new assignments.
• Highly motivated with the ability to work on a team as well as independently and drive results.
• MS Great Plains with report designer skills a plus, but not a requirement.
• Point of Sale, Inventory and Cost of Goods knowledge a plus, but not a requirement.
