Our company is growing and we are seeking a talented and experienced Plumbing Designer to join our team. You will provide engineering support that will include design and 3D modeling of projects for commercial, industrial, education, healthcare, government, multi-family, hospitality, and more. This role will design projects with chilled water systems, water boiler systems, VAV systems, industrial process cooling, cooling towers, fume exhaust systems, ground source and water source heat, domestic water distribution systems, sanitary systems. The candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in all phases of projects and further develop their understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and building codes such as ASHRAE, IBC, IECC, IMC, and IPC.

DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE

• General design and production of plumbing, fire protection systems, fire, and gas detection systems, fueling and process piping drawings from preliminary stages to final construction drawings
• Understanding of fire protection design, building and NFPA Codes, and capable of conducting sprinkler system hydraulic calculations
• Mechanical and plumbing equipment selection, hydraulic calculations, piping design, duct sizing and routing, applicable International Building Codes, etc.
• Draft and design plumbing and fire protection, piping and equipment for commercial developments including water systems, sanitary and storm systems, fire protection water systems, underground piping, sprays, and hydrants.
• Knowledge of central hot water system design, high-rise domestic water design, and hydronic systems.
• Knowledgeable in the design of domestic water, drainage, compressed air, vacuum, and natural gas systems.
• Layout and size equipment, perform load calculations, and investigate code requirements.
• Provide technical expertise during the design phase (schematic, design development) to coordinate spaces required for those systems.
• Coordinate between disciplines and produce working documents using AutoCAD, REVIT, and Bluebeam.
• Communicate effectively with all parties involved in the design, coordination, and construction process.
• Serve as a member of multi-disciplinary design teams in the completion of studies development of plans and specifications for a broad range of projects.
• Perform Construction Administration duties during project construction.
• Work with the Design Manager and Project team members to maintain design standards and quality control of the plumbing plans.
• Work with the Project Manager and Design Manager to ensure that the design documents being produced are correct per applicable codes, company standards, and the clients' wishes.
• Experience reading, analyzing, and interpreting state and local codes, professional publications, and technical data.

REQUIRMENTS

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Preferred)
• Minimum Associate’s in Mechanical Drafting Technology or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in drafting and designing plumbing and fire protection systems
• Knowledge of applicable codes and general engineering practices
• Knowledgeable in the design of domestic water, drainage, compressed air, vacuum, and natural gas systems
• Understanding of fire protection design, building and NFPA Codes, and capable of conducting sprinkler system hydraulic calculations
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office
• Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
• Effective time management skills with a strong work ethic and attention to detail
