Job Title: Test Engineer II

Job Location: Fairfax VA 22030

Onsite Requirements:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering. Master of Science preferred.
  • 5-10 years' experience in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or verification and validation methods.
  • Familiarity with printed circuit assemblies and electrical tests.

Job Description:

Essential Functions:

  1. Perform requirements verification activities through program life cycle.
    • Breaks down top level requirements into actionable design elements.
    • Supports product development lifecycle from requirements development, through design and implementation, and completing with verification and validation.
  2. Perform electrical, software, and firmware testing activities through design and requirement verification.
    • Create verification plans and procedures.
    • Executes verification plans and procedures in an electronics lab environment.
    • Works independently or as part of a small team to complete assignments.
    • Works with cross functional design team to design, develop and test electronics systems.
  3. Support interfacing disciplines such as firmware, mechanical, RF, hardware, integration & test, and program management.
  4. Design and develop detailed test plans and procedures tailored to the specific requirements of space electronic systems, encompassing both functional and environmental testing parameters.
  5. Conduct thorough functional testing of electronic components and systems to verify compliance with design requirements and specifications.
  6. Perform a variety of environmental tests, including thermal vacuum testing, vibration, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing, to simulate the conditions of space and evaluate the performance of electronic systems.
  7. Perform other duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Education/Certification: BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering. Master of Science preferred.
  • Years of Experience: 5-10 years' experience in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or verification and validation methods.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with printed circuit assemblies and electrical test.
  • Experience with electronics test equipment: multimeter, oscilloscope, signal generator, spectrum analyzer and network analyzer.
  • Proven communication/interpersonal skills, self-motivated, and ability to be a strong team player.
  • Experience on executing integration and test activities following test processes and test procedures for electronic systems.
  • Experience collaborating in a multi-disciplined team to solve complex problems.
  • Proven experience on functional testing and environmental testing to space industry standards, including random vibration, thermal cycling, thermal vacuum, EMI/EMC, ESD and shock testing.
  • Ability to be granted a security clearance.

  11. Risk/Issue/Opportunity/ Quality Management-Monitors project execution about risk, issues and opportunities that may arise. Refers significant decisions on change to corporate where appropriate. Monitor implementation of quality assurance measures.
  12. Corporate Compliance/Policy & Process-Monitor adherence to company policy and process guidelines.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Communication: Frequent communication with other employees. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  2. Repetitive Motion: Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  3. Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products or operate machinery.
  4. Physical Strength: Sedentary work; must be able to remain in a stationary position most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally. (Almost all office jobs.)

Working Conditions:

  1. Typically work is performed in an office, laboratory, cleanroom, or sometimes remote environment.
  2. May occasionally work in manufacturing production facility.
