The Position

Bethany School seeks a Director of Advancement to start July 1, 2024. This full-time, salaried, benefits eligible, administrative position reports to the Head of School, serves on the leadership team of the school, and works with the Board of Trustees and its Development Committee, providing updates on fundraising and investments of the school. The Director of Development will provide leadership, vision, and direction for the school's fundraising for the Annual Fund, scholarships, and strategic initiatives, and other external affairs.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the top of funnel marketing strategy and working with vendors to increase web traffic, inquiries, and registrations for Admissions events.
  • Oversee the development of all marketing materials, including print, digital, social media, and review sites.
  • Develop an annual fundraising strategy to generate revenue for Bethany School. This plan should include, but is not limited to:
    • Donor Acquisition,
    • Annual Fund,
    • Financial Aid Fund,
    • Planned Giving,
    • Foundations and grants, and
    • Research and prospecting for major donors.
  • Create a strategy to increase engagement and involvement of alumni/ae, current families, and the wider community.
  • Nurture relationships with all donors, sponsors, local partners, Episcopal communities, Community of the Transfiguration, and ministries of the Diocese of Southern Ohio.
  • Responsible for the development of all digital and printed donor and alumni communications, including an annual development report.
  • Serve as staff support for the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Coordinate logistics for development and other special community events.
  • Update and maintain the donor database.
  • Oversee the processing of all gift income for the purpose of providing receipts and the maintaining of giving records of donors to the school.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Trustees and Development Committee in identifying new partnerships and revenue sources.
  • Act as the primary liaison to the Development Committee proving monthly updates, guiding efforts, and attending monthly meetings.
  • Forming and leading a professional and volunteer staff to carry out the activities of this office.
  • Supporting the school and its leadership.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Necessary Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Graduate Degree preferred
  • 5 years work experience in a school setting or equivalent experience; specifically in independent schools (preferred)
  • Cultural competence and enthusiasm for working with diverse and dynamic families with regard to race, religion, gender, socioeconomic status, family configuration, etc.
  • Exceptional written and verbal interpersonal communication skills; warm and welcoming, energetic and enthusiastic demeanor
  • Strong technology skills; experience with Google Suite, Microsoft 365, Rediker, Blackbaud, etc. preferred
  • Highly motivated and self-directed
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills: active listening, anticipating and assessing needs, connecting community members to community resources
  • Demonstrated integrity, a high degree of discretion, confidentiality, and empathy; commitment to equity
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects and work under deadlines; proficiency in handling a multitude of tasks in a timely manner
  • Willingness and availability to work evenings and weekends; some local/regional travel

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation includes competitive salary commensurate with education, training, and experience. Comprehensive and competitive benefits package, including optional medical and dental plans; non-contributory life and disability insurance; 403(b) plan.

School Context

Bethany School has been a beacon of hope and a sanctuary for children and families for almost 125 years. The school was founded in 1898 by the Sisters of the Transfiguration, a religious order of Episcopal women, and continues to serve the original mission of their ministry to this day.

Bethany School is Ohio's only Episcopal school, a private, co-ed, K-8 school of about 170 students, located in Glendale, just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio.
