Society of Actuaries Research Institute is Hiring a Cloud System Administrator Near Chicago, IL

Cloud System Administrator

*This is a hybrid position within a 100-mile radius of our home office in Chicago, IL.

Your Purpose: 

Responsible for supporting all web properties and coordinating upgrades and enhancements to web and mobile platforms across the organization. This person ensures the underlying web infrastructure and front-end interfaces are reliable and meet the requirements of the organization. This position is responsible for multiple aspects of web site administration and support including system administration, operations, backups, prototyping, testing, monitoring, and management of the underlying hosting infrastructure. This position requires 24-hour on-call support based on a rotating schedule.

What You’ll Do: 

  1. Provide support, administration, and coordinate enhancements to critical Web platforms across the organization (70-75%)
    • Manage hosting and system administration for:
      • Primary web presence and content management system (Optimizely, formerly EpiServer)
      • E-learning and assessment platform (Cold Fusion and Microsoft SQL)
      • Primary collaborative platform (Higher Logic)
    • Handle web application infrastructure management, including:
    • Virtual machines, hypervisors, SANs, load balancers, and firewalls (Rackspace, AWS)
    • Manage Domain Name Services (DNS) and registrations.
    • Administer Web Application Firewall (WAF).
    • Monitor software releases and patches, conduct proactive maintenance.
    • Ensure maximum uptime by monitoring performance and service issues.
    • Oversee scheduled website and database backups for timely restoration.
    • Stay abreast of security developments and take proactive measures.
    • Perform project-related planning and administrative tasks.
    • Guide development of enhancements and prioritize tasks with third-party vendors.
    • Manage web-based projects, ensuring timelines and requirements are met.
    • Provide web application development support.
    • Offer input, guidance, and testing for mobile applications (iOS, Android).
  2. Adapt web and application strategy based on industry trends. Performs general planning and administrative tasks including but not limited to:(10-15%)
    • Work with third-party vendors to obtain quotes for platforms and services
    • Provide management with regular updates on projects and duties
    • Submit software contracts for approval 
    • Provide bi-weekly status reports
    • Attend team and project meetings as required
    • Training for technology solutions
  3. This position requires 24-hour on-call support based on a rotating schedule 

What You’ll Need:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

  • Desired: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Computer Science (or equivalent industry experience)
  • Requires minimum four (4) years of hands-on system administration:
    • Microsoft Server platform expertise:
      • Microsoft IIS
      • Active Directory
      • SQL Server

  • Proficient in web application support, mobile app development, and system architecture.
