General Description
The Assisted Living Caregiver performs duties to meet the personal care needs and activities of daily living of residents in compliance with Snyder Village policies and procedures

HOURS OF WORK:

  • Full-time, 2nd shift schedule, includes every other weekend, rotating holidays
  • Part-time, 2nd shift schedule, includes every other weekend, rotating holidays

  • Must be able to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must be able to work compassionately with older adults, including times when they may be ill, disabled, emotionally upset, or even hostile
Job Responsibilities, Duties and Authority
  • Performs all assigned duties in accordance with established policies and procedures, safety rules and regulations.
  • Follows instructions issued by the Assisted Living Director and follows established routine. Completes all duties assigned before end of shift.
  • Observes residents and notes physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetite, etc. Reports any changes in condition.
  • Assists residents with activities of daily living.
  • Bathes residents as assigned.
  • Dresses residents as assigned.
  • Grooms’ residents as assigned.
  • Shaves male residents when needed.
  • Keeps incontinent residents always clean and dry. Changes bed linens and clothing as needed.
  • Assists residents to and from restroom, if assigned.
  • Encourages residents to perform ADL’s which they are capable of.
  • Assists residents to meals and supervises residents in dining rooms. Assists with trays and helps feed residents if appropriate.
  • Reminds residents to take mediations if appropriate for traditional assisted living only. (State law prohibits any form of handling meds by anyone but relatives or licensed R.N. memory care)
  • Makes beds, sets room in order, keeps drawers and closets neat if appropriate. Vacuums, mops, bathrooms, dusts, and general housekeeping. Checks expiration dates on foods.
  • Prepares residents for rests, physician visits, therapy, activities, church, etc. Transports
  • residents and assists with the above activities as needed. (When applicable)
  • Performs personal services for residents within reason such as reading to them, writing
  • letters for them, operating TV, and radio, and assisting them with recreational and therapy
  • projects in their rooms, etc.
  • Uses gait belt when transferring and walking residents if needed. Uses proper body
  • mechanics always.
  • Assists relatives, visitors, and guests.
  • Applies standard precautions to prevent spread of disease and infections such as washing hands.
  • Charts required information. Takes and records vital signs if necessary and applicable.
  • Answers call lights promptly.
  • Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, calm environment, personal interest
  • and positive emphasis. Maintains a cooperative attitude with peers and other departments.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all residents’ information. Observes residents’ rights.
  • Reports all accidents/incidents to the Assisted Living Director as soon as possible.
  • Assures that all work areas are clean, and that equipment and supplies are properly stored. Sanitizes equipment as needed.
  • Uses work orders to report any need for maintenance and repair of rooms, furniture, or equipment.
  • Gives on-the-job training to new agency personnel as directed by the Assisted Living Director.
  • Responsible for notifying the Assisted Living Director immediately in case of resident abuse or suspected resident abuse.
  • Performs other and related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, employees, etc.
  • May work beyond normal working hours, on weekends, holidays, and in other positions temporarily in staff emergencies, and to ensure proper care for all residents.
  • Must be able to lift, pull, push, and move equipment, supplies, etc.

Minimum Training, Experience and Certification Requirements

  • Able to read, write and follow oral and written directions.
  • Able to maintain a good working relationship with other personnel and departments.
  • Must be able to spend approximately 95% of work time walking, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, or lifting. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and use good body mechanics.
