Smithsonian Enterprises is Hiring a Stock Associate Near Washington, DC

The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian is currently seeking an experienced, efficient, and professional Part Time (24 hours per week) Stock Associate in our museum store location on the National Mall in Washington DC during the Spring and Summer.

The Stock Associate will assist management and staff with the receipt, processing, and organization of merchandise. Qualified candidates will have knowledge of and at least 6 months of experience in receiving and stocking merchandise, preferably in a retail environment. Must have a proven track record of delivering excellent customer service, with outstanding organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels.

Duties include:

  • Unloading and accurate counting of merchandise.
  • Keep merchandise losses to a minimum by ensuring security rules are followed.
  • Pursue discrepancies, contacting appropriate manager until resolved.
  • Monitor incoming merchandise for damages and follow reporting procedures.
  • Handles transfers, RTVs, and price changes with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Initiate stockroom/warehouse changes to meet the ebb of flow of merchandise kept in those locations.
  • Generate ideas and puts them into action for expediting flow, saving time, and providing greater efficiency for staff.
  • Provide or input data in computer for receipt of control numbers for merchandise tracking system, within deadlines.
  • Organize and monitor the consumption of supplies (bags, boxes, tissue, bubble wrap, etc.) and informs management of the needs.
  • Communicate and enforce all related policies and procedures.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Pass pre-employment background check and subsequent background investigation for a position designated as Low Risk
  • May be required to complete a probationary period, contingent with appointment type
  • Maintain a bank account for direct deposit/electronic transfer
  • 6 months of related Retail Experience
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidates must be able to move or lift up to 25 pounds or more, including up and down stairs and be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Candidates must be able to read and verify documents accompanying incoming merchandise.

Competitive compensation and benefits including a Commuter Subsidy to help with commuting costs on public transportation. This is a temporary, part time position at 24 hours per week.

Hourly Wage starting at $17.00
