A qualified Assistant Store Manager (ASM) candidate typically has a college degree or a combination of secondary education, retail, and supervisory experience with Key-Holder responsibilities. They possess great people and team leadership skills, interpersonal, and communication skills with our Team Members and customers. Leading as a successful ASM provides an opportunity to prepare for a future store management role. 

Bring your leadership skills and creativity! Our ASMs lead our store Team Members to DELIVER Legendary Customer Service which builds on-going loyalty with our customers as the “Go To” place for lawn and garden products and pet care products and services. They assist the Store Manager, to achieve store average transaction goals to achieve store and corporate sales goals and superlative customer satisfaction goals. They creatively assist in planning and implementation of product displays to stimulate sales. They provide input to Store Managers on hiring, Team Member performance, training and development, compensation, and coach Team Members to maintain store appearance and stock, on merchandising, creative product displays, manage inventory flow and warehouse management. Our ASMs ensure that we maintain a safe and clean shopping environment throughout the facility and property. 

Bring your passion for pet care and your green thumb: Some of our stores have live animal departments and some have full greenhouses and nurseries, in addition to general merchandise departments. Our ASMs work directly with the Team Members to ensure the safe and humane treatment of live animals, and the health, presentation, and care of live plants, trees, and shrubs. 

Job Duties include: Our ASMs are primarily responsible to support the Store Manager in the overall management of the store, including the leadership for Legendary Customer Service and retail store operation. They perform the Manager-on-Duty (MOD) function when the Store Manager is not present. As MOD, the ASMs will be responsible for the Team Member work schedule, training, opening, closing and daily cash-out function. ASMs are the direct line supervisors of the front-end operations, and all warehouse operations, yard management and stock replenishment. ASMs manage, train, and motivate Team members to consistently exceed goals and standards. They help the Store Managers develop and execute store events and promotions, contributing ideas and thoughts regarding customer interests, product advertising, and competition. ASMs will establish and maintain product and application knowledge to serve customers and train Team Members. Our ASMs assist in managing and implementing seasonal changeovers and execution of all inventory control activities to achieve store loss and shrink goals. 

Requirements: Our ASMs operate with high personal integrity and work ethic; further, they are optimistic, energetic, enthusiastic, and they have a passion for helping customers with pet and garden center products. Our ASMs can plan, organize, and implement multi-step and multi-person projects. They have advanced communication skills, great organizational and time management skills, leading in a team environment, and ability to navigate Point-of-Sale (POS) systems and Microsoft Office 365. 

Assistant Store Manager candidates must submit to a background check prior to the extension of an offer of employment. 

This position requires a minimum work schedule of 45-50 hours per week. Our Management Teams work a six/five-day rotational schedule with work on days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and especially during our peak Spring and Summer sales periods between March and June due to the heavy needs of the business.
