WE ARE CURRENTLY HIRING A SENIOR RETAIL ACCOUNTANT

CT Gardens, LLC. operates Pet and Garden Center retail stores in Connecticut and Massachusetts under the Smithland banner. We currently require a detail-oriented, fast learner with a customer-focused mindset who can multitask. Under the direction of the controller, the senior retail accountant will process the day-to-day accounting tasks, cash forecasts, reconciliations, inventory management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and strategic assistance to department heads and stores. This person will join like-minded experts who are continually focused on sharpening their skills and advancing in their profession.

The ideal candidate will have a natural passion for math, an eagerness to explore further retail accounting functions, and an undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Excel, Power BI, ability to work well in a team environment, and a positive attitude are required.

Primary Job Duties:

· Understand and ensure compliance with GAAP principles.

· Create, analyze, reconcile, and post journal entries assigned to accounts in ERP.

· Prepare timely, detailed, and accurate account reconciliations along with accurate journal entries posted into the financial systems.

· Determine the accuracy of balances, figures, calculations, and postings, and investigate and reconcile any differences.

· Maintain documentation for all work products, particularly month-end closing work papers.

· Prepare daily cash reports and forecasts for cash flow reporting requirements.

· Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency.

· Understand, propose, and independently establish internal control enhancements.

· Support in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.

· Completes tasks in a satisfactory manner given abstract guidelines.

· Support the financial and tax audit.

· Backup for other functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory receiving, and payroll.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

· BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or other relevant degree.

· Retail accounting experience preferred.

· 3-5 years’ work experience as an accountant.

Special Skills:

· Experience with ERP software.

· High proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook, with Power BI being a plus.

· In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

· Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.

· High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

 Other Requirement:

· Willing and able to learn new tasks and systems quickly.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· Team player with a focus on internal and external customer satisfaction.

· Must be willing to work extended hours during month-end, year-end, and other times as needed.

· This is an in-office position located at North Branford, CT, with the potential of becoming a hybrid role.
