SME is Hiring a Payroll/Accounting Specialist Near Plymouth, MI

The Opportunity:

In this role, you will serve as a Senior Accounting Specialist within our Accounting team. This is a unique position as you will have the opportunity for ownership over the payroll process as well as work with the accounting team on various billing and accounting projects and responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing a variety of complex payroll duties in the preparation, processing and maintenance of payroll, salary and benefit calculations to ensure that employees are paid timely and accurately
  • Collecting, analyzing, updating and reconciling payroll data on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Researching and analyzing discrepancies and processing payroll and/or benefit adjustment entries
  • Weekly timesheet review/processing
  • Understanding state and local payroll tax requirements
  • Maintaining of the highest level of confidentiality of all employee records and information
  • Coordinating with HR to ensure that all adjustments and changes are reflected properly
  • Assist with other accounting related tasks, depending on candidates skillset, that could include project billing, weekly revenue and month end close for several entities
  • Assisting with other accounting and payroll related tasks as needed

Core Competencies:

  • 3-5 years of experience supporting / processing payroll and accounting functions
  • Proficient in MS Office and good knowledge of relevant software (e.g. UKG, Vantagepoint) and databases
  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Knowledge and ability to understand policies, laws, regulations and other technical issues applicable to the HR/finance function
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills
  • Excellent understanding of multi-location payroll and taxes
  • Outstanding client service and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet and work effectively under time and resource constraints
  • Associates degree; BSc/BA in business, accounting or relevant field is a plus

Experience
