JOB SUMMARY

The Learning Leader will partner with SLOCA and parents to provide an engaging learning environment for students opting into our new full-time hybrid program. The Learning Leader will be responsible for overseeing the “home-day” education for either Primary, Intermediate, Lower Middle School or Upper Middle School levels, incorporating a rhythm that allows time for grid work, group connection, read-alouds, learning discussions, outdoor time, individual work time, and break activities.

The Learning Leader will also coordinate and maintain consistent communication with core teachers and parents regarding student progress and needs. The Learning Leader will be assisted by an Aide or various teachers at the higher level in providing these services..

JOB STRUCTURE

  • Reports to the appropriate Lead Teacher for each level
  • Part-time, hourly position
  • Mon-Thurs full days, 24-27 hrs/week

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Teaching experience or familiarity with SLO Classical Academy a bonus
  • Experience with children a must
  • Experience overseeing youth activities helpful

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Create and sustain an environment conducive to learning and thriving

  • Develop and implement a daily rhythm/schedule for learning groups that allows for both individual and group learning
  • Keep the room stocked with necessary supplies. Communicate with parents what supplies students need to bring.
  • Maintain an organized, warm environment with students
  • Provide a consistent learning environment students can depend upon
  • Help build rapport with and between students
  • Juggle and meet (within reason) the various needs of student learners
  • Offer rich break opportunities, including both indoor and outdoor activities

Serve as the “home day” teacher for assigned levels

  • Teach/read/discuss with students as assigned on the grids
  • Set up math instruction videos and/or help with math instruction
  • Stay up-to-date on the grid(s) and class assignments
  • Assist students in completing assignments detailed on their grids

Communicate effectively

  • Utilize resources provided by the Lead Teacher Support person
  • Communicate when necessary with a child’s core teacher or lead teacher (eg. when learning issues are suspected)
  • Communicate regularly with parents - weekly with a report
  • Lead/communicate with the Aide or other teachers assigned to the group

Physical Demands

Able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds on a limited basis. Able to stand and walk for extended periods. Able to sit at a desk, using a computer for extended periods. These physical demands are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reasonable

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24 – 28 per week
