You will be the right candidate for us if you have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in interior design, preferably CIDA Accredited program
  • 3 years experience in interior design assisting senior designers, project management and creating design documents
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Create Suite, Virtual Rendering Software, and Microsoft Office
  • Are at all times a team player, reliable, independent worker, who is able to take initiative

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously

Job Benefits:

Job Title: Interior Designer

Job Type: Part-time 1099 contract employee, guaranteed 40 hours a week to start. 1099 employee must have general liability insurance

Estimated pay: $26 to $30 an hour based on experience and qualifications, with opportunity to earn commission

Position Overview: Flexible working arrangements and hours, mostly remote work, professional development, networking opportunities, and potential to attend trade shows and industry events

Schedule: No weekends or federal holidays

Location: Tampa, FL

Work Location: Remote except for visiting project sites, shopping, sourcing from local showrooms, and occasional in person meetings with Slate Studios Team

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Administrative Tasks
  • Answer phone calls and handle correspondence with clients, suppliers, vendors, and trades.
  • Organize meetings and assist in scheduling appointments.
  • Attend virtual and in-person meetings and document detailed meeting minutes.
  • Onboarding & Field Measures
  • Work closely with the senior interior designer to understand project requirements, objectives, and client preferences.
  • Assist senior interior designer in creating design concepts, mood boards, and presentation materials.
  • Conduct on-site visits to project site to inventory furnishings, taking accurate field-measurements and photographs to gather project information.
  • Design Development and Sourcing
  • Contribute to the development of design concepts and ideas for residential or commercial spaces. To include creating mood boards, color schemes, and material selections
  • Order samples and create design boards, and presentation materials.
  • Source items as directed by the scope of work for each project, may require showroom visits and picking up samples in person as well as accompanying the senior interior designer to showrooms for materials selection.
  • Engage in and host client meetings, sharing and selling interior design concepts to get clients excited with your creative vision.
  • Trade Day
  • Attend trade days to explain design concept and ideas and coordinate with trades.
  • Interior Design Drawings (CAD):
  • Utilize CAD software to prepare detailed construction documentation such as interior design drawings, including floor plans, furniture plans, and elevations, reflected ceiling plans, electrical plans, millwork details, finish plans, and schedules.
  • Quoting:
  • Use design spec software to build product specifications.
  • Finalize interior design drawings and specifications and submit them to trades, suppliers, and vendors as directed by interior designer for obtaining written estimates.
  • Prepare comprehensive quotes for merchandise purchase, construction and labor from trades, shipping, warehousing, delivery, and installation services.
  • Furnishings Installation:
  • Assist in shopping for staging accessories with Slate Studios team by visiting local stores together.
  • Attend Furnishings Installation Days to assist with set up, staging and accessorizing, and final client reveal.
  • Attend photography days to assist interior designer with staging and accessorizing to capture the final design results.
  • Maintain Project Status on Project Management Software:
  • Regularly update project information, including milestones, tasks, and deadlines, on project management software.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date project documentation is always accounted for, including meeting notes, documenting contractor and vendor correspondence, updating specifications, ID drawings, contracts, change orders, and vendor agreements.

Secondary Responsibilities

While most secondary responsibilities will be delegated as needed to assist the Senior Interior Designer, there may be occasions when the Interior Designer takes on a more substantial role in these secondary tasks. This flexibility is essential to ensure the seamless progress of our projects.

  • Procurement:
  • Place orders for project furnishings, materials, accessories, and services.
  • Facilitate vendor payments and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Work with designer to maintain an internal quote document for reference and reporting purposes.
  • Create and maintain a shipment tracking document to monitor the progress of orders.
  • Regularly communicate with vendors to obtain order status updates and address any issues.
  • Confirm shop drawings and order acknowledgments to ensure accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
  • Communicate with clients or warehouse personnel to confirm the receipt of delivered items.
  • Ensure that items have been received in the expected condition and quantity.
  • Resolve any discrepancies or issues related to the delivery, such as damaged or missing items.
  • Sourcing and Change Orders:
  • Handle reselections for backordered items and communicate with vendors regarding alternatives.
  • Weekly Site Visits:
  • Conduct regular site visits during the construction phase of the project to document the progress of the job site through detailed photographs.
  • Ensure that the interior design drawings, installation methods, and design specifications are followed correctly.
  • Summarize site visit notes and communicate important updates to the project team.
  • Answer requests for information (RFIs) from the general contractor and trades.
  • Weekly Emails:
  • Prepare and send weekly emails containing shipment tracking information to clients.
  • Summarize site visit notes and communicate important updates to the project team.
  • Construction Administration:
  • Coordinate and host punchlist walkthroughs with the general contractor and trades.
  • Follow up to confirm that all punchlist items have been addressed satisfactorily.
  • Answer requests for information (RFIs) from the general contractor and trades.
  • Schedule Furnishings Install Dates:
  • Plan and schedule the installation of furnishings once construction is complete.
  • Coordinate with cleaning crews, movers, and furniture assembly services, based on project scope.
  • Work closely with clients to ensure scheduling aligns with their availability.
  • Work with designer to prepare and present client appreciation gifts during the project reveal.
  • Resolve Deficiencies
  • Identify any deficiencies during furnishing installation days.
  • Resolve any deficiencies, such as damaged or missing items, and find claims resolutions with vendors, and or warehouse and present to client.
  • Project Conclusion
  • Conduct project close out with client via email, remind them to download all files from portal and google drive for their records.

A 90-day trial period will be in place upon hiring, during which the Interior Designer will have the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency. Upon successful completion of the trial, they will be officially welcomed to the team.
