Skywire Networks is Hiring a Field Technician Near Brooklyn, NY

Description:

Establishes communications systems by installing and maintaining voice and data telecommunications network circuits and equipment.

Duties:

  • Install POTS and data service from NID, indoor and outdoor wiring of phone and data cable. Test and troubleshoot metallic circuits.
  • Plans network installations by studying customer orders, plans, manuals, and technical specifications; ordering and gathering equipment, supplies, materials, and tools, assessing installation site; preparing an installation diagram.
  • Establishes voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables; installing telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, multiplexors, and integrations; following industry standards.
  • Verifies service by testing circuits, equipment, and alarms; identifying, correcting, or escalating problems.
  • Communicates with network operations. Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
  • Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network back-up procedures; updating documentation.
  • Maintains customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns; answering questions.
  • Maintains safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Telecommunications Systems Engineering, Telecommunications Knowledge, Telecommunications Technologies, ng, Technical Understanding, Functional and Technical Skills, Independence, Attention to Detail, Verbal Communication, Documentation Skills, Audiovisual Maintenance.
  • Five years of experience troubleshooting/repairing phone lines both in the field (by customer’s premises) and/or in the central office (willing to be trained).
  • Clean driving record and recognition that any negative changes to their driving record may result in termination of employment.
  • Basic reading and writing skills at high school level or equivalent (ie: GED).

Physical And Sensory Requirements

The physical and sensory abilities required for this classification include:

  • Strength to lift a 50-pound object, without assistance, and items weighing up to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Coordination and equilibrium sufficient to climb a ladder and maintain balance while pulling cable.
  • Sight in order to read computer screens and standard computer printouts / may involve extensive VDT exposure; visual color discrimination sufficient to distinguish the color codes of wire and schematic drawings.
  • Hearing, speech, sight, and physical dexterity sufficient to function in a typical office environment.
  • Coordinated, skillful movements of fingers, hands and arms to operate a computer keyboard; may require hand/eye coordination for semi-skilled movements, such as taking apart casings, installing parts and reconnecting computers.
  • Strength and dexterity to crawl, kneel, crouch, or twist to reach/and or work with assigned systems.
  • Manual and finger dexterity sufficient to work with hands in close tolerances and to work with extremely small electronic components.
  • Strength, mobility and dexterity to use small hand and power tools as necessary and to climb or crawl to install equipment in areas of close tolerance.
