Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) partners with the Director of Clinical Practice/Education and nursing managers/directors in the development of the nursing clinical practice area. The CNE coordinates and guides clinical activities/projects of nurses within the organization. The CNE is accountable for collaborating with members of the health care team to design, implement and measure safe, cost effective, evidence-based care strategies. The CNE is responsible for maintaining current professional knowledge, competencies and skillsets. Essential Functions
Serves as a resource on the latest evidence supporting cost effective, safe nursing practices. Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to identify clinical education gaps or needs. Works within the CEU process to secure educational credits for offered courses. Participates in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of education events, skills fairs, regulatory reviews, and conferences. Evaluates innovative educational programs for clinical staff. Works together with other members of the multidisciplinary clinical team to ensure coordination and collaboration on education programs including individual classes, courses, and simulation. Collects, and analyzes data that that serve as basis for program design and outcome measurement. Creates and revises nursing policies, protocols and procedures using evidence-based information. Serves as an example for strong clinical practice and & quality practice. Actively participates in and drives quality improvement initiatives. Understands and promotes lean concepts throughout the organization. Collaborates with nurses to develop practice environments that support shared decision-making, stimulate continuous self-learning, reflective evaluation, and responsible accountable practice. Assists the staff in developing critical thinking and clinical judgment. Collaborates with Clinical Education team, operational leadership and others on content and design of orientation, clinical competency assessments, and other clinical educational program development. Mentors nurses to acquire new skills, develop their careers and effectively incorporate evidence into practice as well as provide instruction toward achieving compliance with regulatory requirements. Actively provides input for staff performance evaluation. Provides formal and informal education for nurses and other health professionals and health professional students. Participates in the conduct and utilization of nursing research. Consults with other units and health care professionals to improve care. Designs and evaluates Programs and initiatives that are congruent with the organization's strategic plans, regulatory agency requirements, and nursing standards. Participates in needs identification, selection and evaluation of products and equipment. Advances nursing practice through participation in professional organizations, publications, and presentations. Complies with all SHV/SRC policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
Bachelor’s degree and an active RN license or a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required. Masters in Nursing or related field preferred.
Experience/Training
Minimum five (5) years RN experience in hospital setting required. Instructor/education related experience, and leadership experience preferred.
License/Certifications
Current Washington State RN License required. AHA (American Heart Association) BLS and WA State RN License required. Specialty certification, AHA (American Heart Association) PALS, & AHA (American Heart Association) ACLS preferred.
Other Skills
The clinical nurse educator should have expertise in acute care, evidence-based practice, collaboration, consultation, education, and mentoring and change management. An understanding of adult learning and professional nursing practice development. The specialized knowledge and skills are used within three major areas of focus: patient/family, nursing practice, and the organization/system.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee may frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds.
