Job Summary

The Clinical Informatics (CI) Specialist works with teams and individuals to coordinate and facilitate the design and implementation of Clinical Informatics systems. Serves as a liaison between clinicians and the IT Department, providing insight into workflow issues or enhancements needed for the Electronic Medical Record. The Clinical Informatics Specialist maintains an end-user centric focus when contributing to clinical information systems; design, analysis, testing, documentation, implementation, and support activities to enhance technology adoption and efficiencies. Responsible for collaborating with clinical stakeholders, analysts and leaders to design and implement systems centered on patient safety, best practice, evidence-based guidelines, and regulatory compliance. Essential Functions
Document current processes to establish a baseline for developmental improvements of current and future workflows. Recommends and assists with implementing new and improved processes and workflows. Analyze clinical workflows relative to information systems to identify areas for optimization to improve patient outcomes, implement best practices and promote standardization. Synthesize data, information, and knowledge to clarify informatics issues or problems. Analyze multiple approaches/solutions to the informatics issue or problem. Collaborate with stakeholders to align system design and workflows with organizational objectives, patient safety initiatives, quality objectives and current best practice. Develop a recommended informatics solution for the specific issue or problem and manage the process for implementing the solution. Serves as resource to promote standardization, evidence-based content and end user adoption of clinical information systems, including development and implementation of effective methods to support EMR changes through end-user communication and education. Serves as a clinical informatics resource by participating in activities that support end users. Performs post-implementation monitoring of adoption and use. Participates in interdisciplinary and process improvement teams to identify potential uses of the information systems and potential improvements in current use of systems. Looks for opportunities to integrate new systems with existing systems, creates transparency of information and real time monitoring of processes, hard-wire for process integrity and desired outcomes and minimize duplication of work efforts for clinicians. Complies with all SRH policies and procedures.
Education
BSN Required. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience/Training
Minimum 5 years nursing experience in an acute care setting. Registered Nurse with a comprehensive understanding of nursing process and practice standards, patient flow, operational processes and clinical informatics systems. Experience with supporting clinician use of an EMR system, with expertise in hospital or ambulatory clinical computer applications. Epic experience preferred. Change management and process improvement leadership.
License/Certifications
RN license required.
Other Skills
Utilize expert communication skills, change theory, problem solving strategies, and knowledge of resources to create a learning and supportive environment. Excellent verbal and written skills. Familiarity with provider and clinician roles in the hospital setting.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; when working in office. Repetitive tasks such as typing, sitting, answering phones, and interacting with computers and computer systems most of the day is a function of the position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
