Skagit Art Preschool is Hiring a Preschool Director Near Mount Vernon, WA

We are looking to hire an energetic and creative director to manage our day-to-day operations and establish/sustain a positive learning environment for our students! This is a leadership opportunity that would merge your love of early childhood education with program development.

The Director oversees the coordination of education programs that comply with local and federal regulations, ensures that facilities are maintained, manages and supports childcare staff, and manages the center's operational affairs.

The successful applicant will have demonstrable experience in managing all aspects of a school, as well as strong leadership skills. You should display a friendly demeanor, have a love for children, and strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment.

About Skagit Art Preschool:

Skagit Art Preschool (SAP) is a nonprofit early learning center for children ages 2.5-5 located in Mount Vernon, Washington. Originally founded with an art-focused, play-based curriculum, SAP has seen a lot of growth and change over the last few years. We are looking for a creative and driven individual who can take our school to the next level (academically and programmatically).

SAP is open Monday through Friday from 7am-5pm and observes most bank holidays. As a nonprofit, SAP has a board of directors mostly composed of parents; the Director interacts regularly with the board to maintain and improve the school.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe, happy, and stimulating environment for children.
  • Manage and coordinate curricula with staff that complies with state and federal requirements.
  • Ensure that center facilities are safe for children and comply with laws and regulations.
  • Evaluate and manage operations to include: maintaining annual budget, working with bookkeeper to reconcile expenses and run payroll, staff scheduling, policy maintenance, etc.
  • Manage and support teaching staff and promote their professional development.
  • Interview, hire, and train new staff members, ensuring they meet all policies and legal requirements.
  • Complete ongoing training and courses to remain up to date on childcare standards and procedures.
  • Communicate and meet with parents regarding their children and the center’s policies.
  • Manage and oversee the budget and accounts and ensure that the center remains profitable.
  • Work directly with the Board of Directors on the needs of the school.
  • Act as substitute teacher if needed and duties permit (to include substitution for kitchen staff)

Requirements:

  • ECE State Certification or equivalent education
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience; early childhood education experience preferred.
  • Minimum 6 months administration and/or management experience
  • CPR & First-Aid Certified - child and adult
  • Able to comply with local, state, and federal laws governing child care.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
  • Maintain a professional (yet creative and fun!) appearance, attitude, and work ethic at all times.
  • Administrative application experience (Word, Excel, Google Doc, etc.).
  • Reliable phone and transportation.

Preferred:

  • Experience working with nonprofit administration and fundraising
  • Personnel management experience
  • Food Handler’s Permit
  • Experience with Brightwheel or similar
  • Experience with scheduling and payroll software
