GENERALDESCRIPTION OF POSITION

TheMaster Teacher must be able to consistently, and successfully perform allessential functions of the position. DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Relate to allchildren in encouraging and positive ways.
  • Facilitates theimplementation of SJB Curriculum.
  • Establish a climate of respect for each child’s individual personality, physical characteristics and traits, culture, language and ethnic characteristics, family structure, developmental needs and behaviors.
  • Assist with the oversight of center staff nurture and facilitate the learning experience by meeting each child at theirpoint of need through a variety of teaching methods, which include but are notlimited to individualized care andsmall group experiences.
  • Assist inproviding leadership and guidance to children, families, and staff.
  • Interact dailywith each child and support his or her learning process.
  • Provide direction,resources, and support to the program staff in planning, implementing, andevaluating program curriculum.
  • Assist withensuring clear expressions of expectations with natural and logicalconsequences
  • Establish andmaintain a positive relationship with each child’s parent and/or caregivers.
  • Support the whole family by providing tools, resources and opportunities for involvement in order to create a learning community.
  • Provide directssupport, engagement, and extension of a child’s play and learning experiencesby offering assistance and providing resources.
  • Overseedevelopment and implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculumactivities for children’s
  • Supervise andmonitor the continual evaluation of each child’s progress.
  • Assist with the oversight of center staff managing and implementing a positive approach of combining consistency,empathy, and culturally diverse practices.
  • Assist with ensuring interest areas provide choices, opportunities for safe risks, and challenge children to interact,learn, create, and thrive while corresponding with the developmental andindividual needs ofeach child,thus fostering the desire to learn.
  • Participate in theorientation process of families.
  • Assists inimplementing SJB’s Staff Educational Plan: e.g. planning and conductingmini-training sessions and workshops; providing resources to staff, etc.

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Plan, supervise,and implement the program in accordance with the policies and philosophy of SJBChild Development Centers.
  • Assist in theplanning and conducting of monthly staff meetings.
  • Facilitatebi-weekly program meetings.
  • Assist inmonitoring enrollment capacity.
  • Assist with theaccurate update of records at site including but not limited to: enrollment,attendance, CACFP, daily logs,curriculum, child observations, and parent participation.
  • Assist withbi-monthly Parent meetings.
  • Assures that allproper documentation has been conducted by deadlines, (include, but not limitedto DRDPR’s, ITERS, ECERS, SACERS, Environmental Rating Scales, Lesson Plans,etc.)
  • Work in thecapacity of Second in Command and monitors the daily operation of the center, respondsto unannounced site visits by the Department of Social Services and CommunityCare Licensing as directed by Site Supervisor.
  • Assist in theperformance evaluation of center staff.
  • Assist in theacquisition of supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Participate ininterviewing, orienting, training, and terminating program staff as directed bySite Supervisor.
  • Assists in thescheduling of staff in accordance with licensing requirements and site needs.
  • Assists SiteSupervisor, working with all departments to ensure all proper forms arecompleted and requirements met.
  • Assists SiteSupervisor with identifying, designating, training, managing, and mentoringprogram staff.

HEALTHAND SAFETY

  • Monitor theprovision of a safe, secure, clean, and challenging environment for children,families and staff.
  • Coordinate monthlyfire drills, earthquake drills, and annual disaster drills.
  • Report safetyhazards and injuries the Master Teacher immediately.
  • Follow health andsafety standards for children, families and staff.

OTHERRESPONSIBILITIES

  • Travel whennecessary to conduct SJB business.
  • Support SiteSupervisor in meeting all Licensing and Sub-contractor Regulations, Funding,Terms & Conditions, SJB policies & procedures, and the Education Codewhere applicable.
  • Maintain confidentialityof children, families, and employees.
  • Work as a memberof the SJB team by promoting the mission, values, and philosophy of SJB.
  • Network withcommunity and early childhood professionals.
  • Network withrelated outreach organizations to remain current on issues affecting childrenand families as directed by Site Supervisor.
  • Assists withdetermining program/site needs and informs Site Supervisor.
  • Monitors areasneeded to assure the implementation of curriculum and state/SJB policies.
  • Performs related dutiesas assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience as aTeacher in a group care environment.
  • Current TBClearance, physical screening, and First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Active Fingerprint Clearance with DSS/CCL and/or submittal of Fingerprint Cards with signed Criminal Record Statement prior to employment.
  • Mustpossess California Driver’s License, and meet minimum insurance requirementsfor personal vehicle and have a driving record that meets the standards setforth in Administrative Regulation 4532 and 4533.

Current Master TeacherPermit

OPTION 2

24 to 32 Semester units in ECE (including 3 core areas of “CUR”=Curriculum, “CFC”=Child Family Community,“CGD”=Child Growth Development")

16semester units in general education (including "ENG", "SS","MAT/SCI", and "HUM")

Current Master Teacher Permit and 175 days of experience in last four years and six additional semester units in one area of specialization and 

Twoadditional semester units in adult supervision and 350 days of experience inlast 4 years.

OPTION 3

Bachelor's orhigher degree and 12 semester units in ECE or child development and current MasterTeacher Permit and 3 semester units supervised field experience.

PHYSICALDEMANDS

Works with preschool children, while performing theduties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to physically, andoccupationally reach for a child 25 feet away in 10 seconds or less.Hear a child 50 feet away, kneel, crouch,bend, crawl, and lift up to 30 pounds; sit on a low chair/floor for a long periodand reach a child on a high play structure safely. Type and use a computer andmouse each workday.
