Sisters of St. Joseph is Hiring a RN Supervisor Near New York, NY

POSITION SUMMARY:

Manage all the staff on duty and supervise the nursing care for all sisters at the Convent during shift. Assume responsibility for specific nursing functions within the scope of LPN/RN licensing as delegated by the Administrator or Director of Nursing. Function as a member of the nursing staff in cooperation with other departments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess an active New York State RN certification and 5 years of recent nursing experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Sound nursing judgment.
  • Ability to educate, mentor and coach staff to enhance skills that comply with processes.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • Ability to relate to sister-residents professionally and with understanding and sensitivity.
  • Ability to handle emergencies effectively.
  • Experience and updated knowledge in nursing techniques and care programs.
  • Ability to accept suggestions and direction.
  • Proficient in computer use and electronic records.
  • Must be fully COVID vaccinated.

ESSENTIAL Duties and Responsibilities (include, but is not limited to):

  • Understanding of and commitment to the charism and mission of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
  • Make daily rounds, assist staff in assessing and evaluating a sister's changing health needs.
  • Provide continuing assessment of Sisters 'needs; offer and follow-up on nursing care services.
  • Pick up doctors' orders, schedule testing, and oversee medication adjustments.
  • Apply knowledge of drugs and drug interactions, diagnostic tests, and therapeutic modalities.
  • Identify, assess, and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Document and maintain current and accurate medication administration records.
  • Write and update nursing policies and procedures.
  • Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, and spiritual support.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by implementing procedures, and rules.
  • Ensures operation of medical and administrative equipment.
  • Maintains nursing supplies, approving requisitions and cost allocations.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information.
  • Document all changes, input medical and lab data into computer.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL ROLE CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Orient new nurses; assess and supervise all nurses and nursing aides on duty.
  • Train and educate RNs & LPNs on interpretation of lab results, care plans, doctor's orders, medication effects and side effects, disease processes.
  • Exhibits strong leadership skills and the ability to demonstrate a high degree of initiative and self-direction. Foresight, sound judgment, adaptability, problem resolution, and strategic thinking skills must be demonstrated.
  • Able to foster collaborative relationships and to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Maintains positive employee morale and ensures a workplace atmosphere that is free from harassment and discrimination.
  • Able to remain calm in a crisis and to abide by strict legal and professional confidentiality is critical.
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to motivate and encourage others.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Intermittent sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Lifting and moving materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Time spent on phone, emailing, or texting.
  • Sustain repetitive movement (CPR Compressions).
  • Bend, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
