Position Summary:

The controller’s role is organized around six primary functions: (1) Financial Planning and Analysis, (2) Transaction Processing, (3) Accounting and Internal Financial Reporting, (4) External Reporting, Compliance, Licensing, Banking, Legal, and Taxes, and, (5) Human Resources Support.

Essential Duties and Tasks of the Position:

1. Financial Planning and Analysis: This function is responsible for the primary decision support activities for the organization.

· Planning/Budgeting/Forecasting: Identify business trends; establish key performance indicators from benchmarking analysis and organizational critical success factors. Develop plans, budgets and forecasts that outline organizational performance goals.

  • Evaluate & Report Financial Performance:Evaluate the financial performance of services/products, strategies, and assess the financial impact of business decisions. Prepare reports that measure performance against predetermined targets and manage the corrective action process.
  • Capital Allocation / Investment Decision Support: Identify needs, develop business and investment proposals, prioritize those proposals, and track results.
  • Supporting Analysis for Executive Management: Ad hoc analysis for additional support with decision activities.

2. Transaction Processing: This function’s primary mission is to efficiently process the transactional activity of the company.

· Customer Billing and Collections: Credit, cash application of check and electronic payments, collection and receivables management.

· Accounts Payable: Process payments of operating expenses and other vendor charges.

· Expense Reimbursements: Process advances and reimbursements for employee expenses. This often dovetails with accounts payable.

· Payroll: Process checks and electronic payments for employment services.

· Cost Management: Develop and implement methods and approaches for cost analysis, benchmarking, business process improvement, purchasing, asset resource deployment and utilization and value driver evaluation. Critical success factors and performance indicators for the business should be integrated with activity based measures.

· Policies and Procedures: Develop policies and procedures for transaction processing.

3. Accounting and Internal Financial Reporting: This function is responsible for efficiently maintaining the financial books and records of the organization. The data provided by this function is the sole source for historical financial information used by Financial Planning and Analysis and External Reporting and Compliance.

· General Accounting: Manage the organization’s ongoing financial records. Maintain the chart of accounts and process journal entries and adjustments to the organization’s general ledger accounts.

· Intercompany Billing/Administration: Develop and manage procedures and agreements between legal entities and business units (if any) within the company to properly report internal costs and activity. This includes transfer pricing, account eliminations, capital allocations and other internal cost allocations.

· Cost Accounting & Control: Develop and implement methods and models for the allocation of operating and overhead costs across products and/or services. This is used to evaluate and control product/service pricing, profitability and trends.

· Fixed Asset Management & Accounting: Develop and implement procedures relating to capital budget decisions and depreciation. Maintain fixed asset records including acquisitions, disposals and depreciation (both book and tax).

· Closing, Consolidation and Internal Financial Reporting: Develop, implement and manage policies and procedures used to support the financial close and consolidation process. This includes all operational activities performed to close the books on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis including eliminations, equity accounting, and internal financial reporting such as business unit profit/loss and balances sheets.

· Financial System Software Applications: Perform maintenance tasks associated with designated applications. This includes enhancements as well as bug correction, required regulatory updates, system tuning, upgrades, etc. This process may apply to in-house developed applications as well as packaged applications.

4. External Reporting, Compliance, Licensing, Banking, Legal, and Taxes: This function is responsible for the production of external regulatory reporting.

· Financial Policies & Procedures: Document and update the policies and procedures relating to financial management.

· Internal Controls: Ensure that internal control procedures are woven into the fabric of the organization to cover assets, liabilities, and financial reporting.

· Licensing: Manages any required business/other licenses.

· Banking: Coordinates the company’s banking relationship(s).

· Legal: Coordinates the company’s requirements for legal services; manages the relationships between company leadership and outside legal counsel.

· Coordination with Tax Advisors: Work with tax accountants and others to manage all taxes. This includes coordinating with shareholders regarding minimizing taxes and payments (including quarterly estimated tax payments).

5. Human Resources Support: This function is responsible for supporting the company’s Human Resources.

· Human Resources Policies & Procedures: Document and update the policies and procedures relating to Human Resources, including the Employee Manual, the on-boarding and training of new employees, and ongoing safety training.

· Human Resources Issues: Serve as a resource for supervisors and managers, as well as all employees, to ensure proper application of HR policies and procedures. This includes assisting supervisors and managers in the application of any employee performance improvement plans (PIP) to assist underperforming employees. Duties also include the administration of any annual employee performance appraisals and oversight of any employee terminations.

6. Other tasks as assigned, including:

· Create an environment imbued with integrity and strong ethical values

· Communicate effectively both orally and in writing

· Motivate team members to contribute, achieve, improve performance, and develop their talents

· Effectively resolve issues and encourage cooperation among teams that perceived conflicting goals and objectives

· Provide candid and timely performance or development feedback (both positive and negative) in a constructive, supportive manner by:

o Identifying specific performance gaps

o Define the causes of those gaps

o Recommend actions for improvement

o Providing constructive guidance regarding performance and skills

· Leverage staff resources across the organization, including:

o Involve appropriate talent in assignments and practice development initiatives

o Included diversity of talent in teams

o Utilize highly experienced management when appropriate

· Conduct screening and selection interviews

· Evaluate individuals as part of the annual staff review process

· Review development plans of staff to ensure that development actions are appropriate to the individual’s needs and levels

· Act as mentor to direct reports

· Lead and implement change initiatives and adapt actions plans and tactics as required

Position Requirements:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and five to ten years related experience, preferably as a Controller, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

· National designation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

· Expertise with Quickbooks.

· Expertise in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

· Should be a strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.

· Well organized and self-directed.

· Possesses excellent communication skills.

· Excellent negotiation skills with experience in contracts.

· Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.

· Ability to work in a non-smoking work environment.

· Punctual, have a good work attitude, and work cooperatively with others in the department and company.

· Accept and benefit from constructive criticism.

· Demonstrated excellent attendance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
