PositionOverview:
The IV Chemotherapy Technician, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, ensures patients receive the correct medication; packages and labels medication doses; fills routine orders for stock supplies to patient care areas; and assists in all aspects of IV admixture preparation and delivery. He/She complies with the standards, ethics, laws and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy, including the MS Board of Pharmacy and DNV standards.

Education:
High school graduate or equivalentrequired. Graduate of a pharmacy technician training program preferred.
License:
Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician bythe Mississippi State Board of Pharmacy.
Certification:

Certification as a PharmacyTechnician by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR theNational Healthcare Association (NHA) is required and this certification mustbe maintained.
NPTA (National PharmacyTechnician Association) Chemo Certification preferred
Experience:

Minimum of 5 years’ experiencepreparing IVs as a pharmacy technician.

Physical Demands:
Stands, turns, bends,stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses many physical motions in performing day-to-dayactivities. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and do a greatdeal of walking without experiencing undue fatigue. Work involves being able toperceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels, with or withoutcorrection.
Must demonstrate theability to communicate, speak, and enunciate to express/exchange ideas anddetailed information in person and on the telephone. Work requires a minimumstandard of visual acuity, with or without correction, with the ability toadjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze fromviewing a computer monitor to forms that are closer to compare data at closevision.
Must be able to work forextended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue. Must be able towork flexible hours.
Mental Demands:

Must demonstrate keen mentalfaculties/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate superiorcommunication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information inperson and by telephone. Must demonstrate strong written and verbalcommunication skills. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealingwith high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure andmeet deadlines.
Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations isrequired. Must work with the realization that errors may have seriousconsequences to patient care.
Special Demands:
Must possess superior customer serviceskills and professional etiquette. Must possess proficient knowledge andability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other officetechnology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.). Must have intermediate knowledge of MSOutlook and Word.
Must be able to understand basic pharmaceutical and medical technology. Musthave knowledge of sterile procedures and techniques. Must be knowledgeable ofmedical abbreviations, medication strengths, IV solutions, generic and brandname medications, and basic pharmacy operations.
