Position Purpose:

The Quality Specialist will lead the development, facilitation, and coordination of quality improvement programs (clinical, operational, and service line) resulting in improved patient care, operations, and patient experience. Caregiver will collaborate with Hospital and Medical Staff on projects and quality initiatives relating to improved operations, processes, and procedures. Facilitates activities associated with the Core Measures program including abstraction management and oversight of associated databases and systems. Assists with the completion of the medical staff peer review process.

Key Job Activities:

  • Provides support to clinical department quality committees and other quality-related teams; Prepare agendas, meeting materials, minutes, and related correspondence
  • Performs data collection and abstraction for core measures, peer review, patient safety indicators and other quality indicators with an accuracy level of 90% or better following training; establishes and implements a system to communicate results in a real-time manner; coordinates review processes and maintains tracking systems/logs keeping them updated with results
  • Prepares detailed reports, presentations, and dashboards, presents findings at a variety of quality meetings and facilitates follow-up plans; communicates the status of plans to responsible designated individuals
  • Responsible for facilitating, leading, or collaborating on Quality Performance Improvement projects within the system. Supports improved quality compliance by educating clinical and ancillary staff on quality methodology. Serves as a resource to staff on potentially problematic and complex cases
  • Attends assigned scheduled and ad-hoc meetings as required. Demonstrates ability to adapt to emergent requirements for quality initiatives
  • Reviews assigned cases for Quality as part of QIO case reviews and mortality reviews. Completes reports in a timely manner or by deadline
  • Ensure compliance to organizational quality training needs, processes, and other quality regulatory directives are adhered to support the operations and quality requirements for business operations
  • Manage various department quality corrective action items, ensure appropriate documentation, and determine the effectiveness of the actions sinaichicago.org
  • Facilitates activities associated with the Core Measures program including abstraction management and oversight of associated databases and systems
  • Assists with the completion of the medical staff peer review process, FPPE, and OPPE
  • Serves as the main resource for the development of education and training on core measure requirements; Creates training materials, updates materials as revisions are issued and conducts in[1]service training programs for medical staff, house staff, nursing, and other related staff; creates and sends correspondence to responsible leaders well in advance of required implementation dates
  • Utilizes and prepares quality improvement tools such as basic flowcharts, and FMEAs, and interprets results using control charts and other data analysis tools
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Associate degree with at least two years of Quality Improvement or related healthcare experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in nursing or healthcare related industry

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Two years of clinical or related hospital experience, with one to two years’ experience in quality improvement or related activities preferred
  • Experience Preferred in EPIC and MEDITECH software systems while maintaining current knowledge of the use of the health systems electronic medical record systems
  • Maintains “expert” knowledge of standards related to accreditation and regulatory bodies, i.e., The Joint Commission, CMS, IDPH, CARF, and ACHC
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required
  • Knowledge of Quality Improvement tools and statistical analysis
  • Knowledge of quality improvement principles and practices (project management, patient safety concepts, peer review, public reporting, data analysis, data management, and statistical process control in healthcare.
  • Knowledge of external regulatory and accreditation agency rules and regulations.
  • Familiarity of facilitating and coordinating healthcare improvement projects with previous quality improvement project experience.
  • Proficient computer skills with extensive experience using various software applications such as MS Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Excellent oral, written, “platform” and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work independently
  • High degree of creativity in problem-solving

Certifications/Licenses:

  • CPHQ preferred
