Sinai Chicago is Hiring a System Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Near Chicago, IL

The System Chief Nurse Officer (CNO) provides direction, leadership, planning, organization and general management for all aspects of patient care within the health system. The CNO ensures integration of services and compliance with long-range objectives and strategies, including the provision of excellent quality services and responsible fiscal management. This role is the patient care executive responsible for the professional practice of nursing and other designated patient care services. The position develops and implements the system-wide plan in the provision of patient care programs, nursing care; participates with administration, governing board members, medical staff and department directors in the system’s decision-making structures and processes; and assumes responsibility for implementing and effective continuous improvement plan to advance patient care and outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for regulatory, quality, service, resources, nursing staff competency and evaluation of the overall delivery of patient care.
  • Represents the professional practice of nursing and clinical provision of care as a member of the system leadership, the medical executive committee and other medical staff committees.
  • Partners to provide for the seamless transition of patients across the continuum of care.
  • Champions an environment that engages staff and others in decision making, inclusiveness and providing high quality safety outcomes.
  • Accountable for the delivery of efficient, cost effective and high-quality patient care services by determining, developing, and implementing the most cost-effective and efficient levels of patient care and clinical programs
  • Directs, coordinates and controls the overall operation of nursing and is responsible for the integration of nursing services with other disciplines to support and fulfill the hospital’s mission, policies and strategic plan.
  • Developing, and updating policies and procedures that address nursing care, and patient treatment and service needs
  • Optimizes nursing resource management systems including patient acuity and staffing applications
  • Ensures compliance with legal and ethical issues related to client data, information, and confidentiality
  • Partners to develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies to ensure a sufficient and stable workforce of qualified staff members are available to meet current and future patient needs
  • Implements the organizations performance and quality improvement programs, including innovating, planning, setting priorities, conducting systematic assessments, implementing improvements, and maintaining achieved improvements
  • Supports the development and implementation of patient and workplace safety programs, including: - Supporting a just culture environment and a system for reporting unsafe practices - Identifying, mitigating, and acting to correct areas of risk and liability in patient care - Ensuring a safe work environment that is based on a zero tolerance for sexual harassment, work-place violence, and verbal and physical abuse
  • Ensure nursing excellence, superior nursing colleague moral and serves as change agent when patient care work/workflow is redesigned
  • Encourages staff participation in clinical and systems-based research studies
  • Understands, articulates, and ensures compliance with patient care standards reflected in federal and local state laws and regulation, The Joint Commission, hospital regulatory, local state nurse practice act, and organizational policies and procedures
  • Maintains knowledge of current nursing practice, roles and functions within nursing and other healthcare disciplines
  • Ensures that nursing practice, leadership practice, and clinical policies and procedures are reviewed, updated, evidence-based, and consistent with current standards and research
  • Ensures that the care delivery model, clinical environment of care and related technology are appropriate to the needs of caregivers and patients
  • Recognizes and resolves issues related to patient rights, HIPPA violations, ethical dilemmas, privacy, security and confidentiality
  • Integrates professional practice standards into systems of staff accountability
  • Participates in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of programs that enhance knowledge and skill development of professional practice and professionalism

The successful candidate will have the following minimal qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse License
  • Ten or more years of progressively more responsible related work experience including five (7) or more years of progressive experience as senior nurse in a medium complex and matrix hospital/healthcare setting.
  • A proven track record as a leader of a health care organization.
  • Ability to communicate a vision and instill associates with a sense of shared purpose.
  • Leadership and management skills necessary to work effectively within a system, influence results, motivate individuals and teams, and resolve problems in a diplomatic professional manner.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, persuasion, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • The incumbent must be able to clearly articulate factual and advisory information to all levels of staff, executives, the boards of directors, and others, and garner related support.
  • Computer skills including proficiency in EMR, clinical technology, and Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to operate in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • A personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Sinai Health System
