Sims Municipal Recycling is Hiring a Laborer Near Millville, NJ

SMR is a leader in the municipal recycling industry. SMR was established in 2003 and soon became the cornerstone of the New York City curbside recycling program. In addition to NYC, SMR now serves several NJ municipalities and counties, and in recent years has expanded operations to Florida. We are an operations-intensive business, processing large tonnages at multiple facilities, producing sorted commodities for the recycled materials market.

We are currently looking for Laborers to join our facility in Jersey City, NJ.

Major Job Responsibilities/Duties

  • Inspects materials and sorts items or materials into piles or places in bins or barrels according to type, size, condition, coloring, marking, or other characteristics
  • Operate safety equipment and use safe work habits
  • Operate machinery used in the production process or assist equipment operators
  • Load and unload items from machines, conveyor and conveyances
  • Moves reusable materials to production department or storage
  • Separates metal particles from waste
  • Cleaning which includes; sweeping and shoveling residual waste from process
  • Removes waste materials from conveyor
  • Other duties may be assigned

Job Qualifications

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • One year minimum experience in a heavy industrial setting or equivalent combination of education and experience

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
