SummarySilicon Valley International School (INTL) seeks an Upper School (Grades 6-10) Physical and Health Education Teacher for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year.
Teachers at INTL develop schemes of work and lesson plans in line with the IB Middle Years Programme curricular framework and objectives. They facilitate learning by establishing a relationship with students and by their organization of learning resources and the classroom learning environment. They develop and foster the appropriate skills and social abilities to enable the optimum development of children according to age, ability, and aptitude. They link students' knowledge to earlier learning and develop ways to encourage it further. They challenge and inspire students to help them deepen their knowledge and understanding.
The Upper School Physical and Health Education Teacher must demonstrate commitment to INTL’s mission and the population we serve and be experienced with teaching at the Middle School and lower High School levels. They must also be responsible, self-motivated, friendly, willing to work with a team of colleagues, and accepting and adaptable to a working environment with different cultures.
The position involves teaching through inquiry according to the MYP framework while also ensuring necessary skill acquisition and collaborating extensively. Time for collaboration with the other teachers is built into the schedule. INTL seeks teachers who know how to combine academic rigour with student engagement and have experience with inquiry-based teaching and learning.
The position may also include responsibility for our high school outdoor education program and/or athletic director responsibilities for our middle school sports programs, depending on the experience and suitability of the successful candidate.
Primary Responsibilities
Typical work activities include:
Teaching all areas of the MYP curriculum as designated (in subject area as well as interdisciplinary units)
Following the guidelines and mission of INTL and IB
Organizing the classroom and learning resources to create a positive learning environment
Planning, preparing, and presenting lessons that differentiate for the needs of the ability range and levels within the class
Designing units integrating the elements of the MYP curricular framework and informed by assessment
Motivating students with enthusiastic, imaginative presentations/engagements and respectful interactions
Managing student behavior and maintaining discipline
Preparing, documenting, evaluating, and communicating to facilitate positive student development
Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of students' development
Providing feedback to parents on the student's progress at parents' conferences and other (often less formal) meetings and report cards
Collaborating with others to plan and coordinate work, liaising with colleagues and working flexibly
Staying up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the national and international curricula
Occasionally taking part in school events and activities that can be run at weekends or evenings outside of working hours
Planning and participating in field trips
Leading an Advisory group and/or offering student clubs
Qualifications
University degree(s) relevant to the role
Proficiency in English to teach and collaborate
Minimum of 5 years teaching experience strongly preferred
Experience with IB teaching is strongly preferred
Experience with outdoor education and/or athletic director responsibilities is strongly preferred

Compensation and benefits
Our compensation is based on education and years of experience. The salary range for this full-time teaching position for the 2023-24 school year is $70,394 (BA Step 3) to $111,453 (PhD Step 20 ).
