Sightline Hospitality is Hiring a Prep Cook (Breakfast) - Jalao NYC Near New York, NY
We are seeking a skilled Prep Cook for our Breakfast Service to join our team with Jalao, New York City, located inside the Radio Hotel. The ideal candidate will have experience in preparing breakfast dishes and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
About the Hotel and Restaurant
The Radio Hotel is a 221 room hotel, mixed-use high rise, located at 2420 Amsterdam Avenue in the Washington Heights area in Northern Manhattan. The property features flexible meeting space, and the Jalao Restaurant. Guests can escape from the streets of New York City to the brightly colored paradise of the Dominican Republic while dining at Jalao. The Jalao Restaurant serves Dominican food in vibrant and cultural surroundings right in the heart of NYC’s Washington Heights Neighborhood.

Essential Job Duties
- To follow all specifications to safely and properly prepare vegetables for cooking and serving, including washing, peeling, paring, and chopping.
- To follow all specifications and recipes in the preparation of food items for restaurants, employee meals, banquets, room service, and special functions.
- To retrieve needed stores from Purchasing, as directed.
- To assist Line Cooks, other Kitchen Staff and supervisors, as directed.
- To assist, as directed, to serve banquets and special functions, and to prepare special menu items.
- To follow all company policies and procedures.
- To immediately report all suspicious occurrences and hazardous conditions.
- To maintain the cleanliness and safety of work areas at all times.
- Follow all company safety standards, including proper equipment handling to avoid injury to yourself and others.
- To attend all mandatory meetings as directed.
- To perform other tasks, including cross-training, as directed.
Essential Experience/Aptitudes
- Prior experience as a Prep Cook (with breakfast menu items preferred)
- Fluency in English (written and verbal) is required.
- Must have High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of kitchen operation helpful.
- Must have thorough knowledge of proper use and storage of all relevant kitchen tools and equipment.
Desired Skills/Experience
- Must be organized, efficient and meet high quality standards for service.
- Able to accept direction and constructive criticism in a high stress environment.
- Good team player.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with co-workers and the public.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Able to work productively with little supervision.
- Flexibility to work early morning shifts, weekends and/or Holidays.
Essential Physical Abilities
- Frequently required to handle and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. over short to moderate distances.
- Must be able to work well under pressure.
- Pushes, pulls, bends and lifts to perform routine job tasks.
