Description
SUMMARY
The Millwright I is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and construction of mechanical systems throughout the facility. Such systems include, but are not limited to pneumatics, hydraulics, steam, gas and water. Required skills include, but are not limited to general mechanical repair, basic carpentry, welding, masonry, and plumbing.
ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Included but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as required:
  • All tasks shall be performed safely and competently with minimal to average supervision.
    • Understand and practice all plant safety rules and housekeeping practices associated with their work.
  • Understand operation of furnaces, presses and hammers (able to learn how to operate for the sole purpose of troubleshooting) and how to troubleshoot all plant machinery, equipment, facilities, and their installations.
  • Repair, replace, adjust, dismantle, and assemble parts on a wide variety of machinery and equipment.
    • Able to maintain, repair or replace:
      • Hydraulic valves, pumps, motors, hose, and piping replacements.
      • Pneumatic piping, plumbing, valves, diaphragm pump repair, regulators, and air filters.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical drive systems such as pulleys, chain systems, sprockets, gear boxes, couplings, etc.
  • Install, modify, and maintain piping systems for steam, air, gas, water, hydraulics, etc.
  • Lay out and perform simple carpentry using power and hand tools normally associated with the trade.
  • Use welding (STK, MIG) and burning equipment for minor repairs.
  • They shall be able to run equipment in the Maintenance Shop such as: pipe threaders, drills, saws or similar types of equipment. They shall be able to make simple repair parts and shall be able fabricate to reasonable tolerances.
  • Perform general building maintenance and upkeep functions such as, but not limited to, replacement of broken windows, general repair of doors and minor roof repairs.
  • Complete basic electrical repairs as required when adequately trained in basic electrical maintenance. Examples include, but are not limited to: resetting overloads, replacing solenoid coils, replacing fuses, and changing bulbs. As appropriate, electrical systems will be isolated and re-energized by Maintenance Electrician(s), but the Millwright I is required to follow personal lockout procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma
  • One year certificate from college or technical school
  • 3 years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong background with utilizing basic hand tools
  • Familiar with pneumatic and hydraulics: Able to read simple prints and sketches
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
  • Able to do common methods of rigging or handling of heavy machinery or parts.
  • Welding: Capable of performing MIG and STK welding
  • Able to operate a variety of equipment which include, but are not limited to: cranes, hoists, tractors, welders, burning torches, benders, pumps, compressors, and lift trucks
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to handle up to seventy-five (75) pounds and physical dexterity to meet the mechanical needs of the facility
  • Willingness to work extended hours and open to work any shift
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime as needed
NOTE: Any skill is subject to possible demonstration and/or testing by Company and/or 3rd party, and if a Millwright I is unable to demonstrate competency in any aspect of the job, that Millwright may be afforded additional training in order to obtain necessary skills for the job. Inability to demonstrate minimum skill, may disqualify individual from the Millwright I classification.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to effectively deal with problems involving known and unknown variables.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities require by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
