Currently, we are seeking a qualified Maintenance Supervisor to work collaboratively with our sawmill in Sonora, California .

About The Position

  • Work with Mill Manager, Superintendent, and other supervisors to optimize productivity
  • Assure safe workplace practices are followed and promote safety awareness through leading by example
  • Effectively communicate with outside suppliers and service providers
  • Actively manage and reduce downtime through quick analysis of options and orchestrating solutions
  • Improve and lead the maintenance department through predictive, preventative, and proactive maintenance analysis
  • Manage methods and procedures for allocating labor, planning, scheduling, and timely completion of jobs
  • Manage parts inventory, working with purchasing to ensure timely and economical parts and supply inventory
  • Exercise cost control measures and maintain improvement plans
  • Manage installation, maintenance, repair, and testing of all equipment to increase reliability and improve performance
  • Identify opportunities and take measures to reduce waste and inefficiencies
  • Maintain documentation for department operations, disciplinary actions, Workers’ Compensation, attendance, etc.
  • Understand and comply with applicable regulations such as OSHA, wage and hour, and environmental
  • Supervise, train, direct, and coordinate work of department’s crew
  • Effectively manage crew work time and duties during production, breakdowns, and emergencies
  • Lead improvement processes through decision making, employee involvement, and training
  • Recognize the need and opportunity, and take action, to implement cross-training
  • Manage scheduled time off, unexpected absences, and modified duties of the crew
  • Approve timecards for payment, assuring compliance with applicable regulations and Company policy
  • Participate with interviews and selection of new hires
  • Recognize and recommend crew commendation, corrective, disciplinary, and discharge actions
  • Participate in crew member corrective, disciplinary, and discharge actions
  • Evaluate crew and make recommendations for awarding of job openings

Qualifications

  • 2 years of supervisory experience required
  • 5 years of experience working in an industrial / manufacturing environment, with wood product manufacturing experience preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of maintenance operating procedures and best practices, including shutdown
  • Understand machinery operations and related hydraulics, with sufficient knowledge to address both preventative and corrective maintenance
  • Knowledge of both mechanical and electrical components as they are used in an industrial environment
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and conduct root cause analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a crew
  • Understand wood product manufacturing processes with emphasis in people management
  • Proven commitment to safety and company policy
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities under demanding circumstances

The general wage range for this position at Sierra Pacific Industries is from $95,000 to $135,000 per year, and is dependent upon a number of factors, including, but not limited to : relevant work experience, skill, knowledge, and / or education.
