Siena Heights University is Hiring an Admissions Counselor Near Adrian, MI

SUMMARY: The Admissions Counselor position in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions is responsible for recruiting prospective students to the University’s undergraduate residential campus in Adrian, Michigan and meeting institutional enrollment goals.

Siena Heights University, founded in 1919 and sponsored by the Adrian Dominican Sisters, is a private Catholic institution whose mission is to assist people to become more competent, purposeful, and ethical through a teaching and learning environment which respects the dignity of all. The University uses the Dominican Shield of the International Order of Preachers to symbolize the unity of a body of people working together for the common good.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Guide students through a comprehensive college enrollment process, from inquiry to enrolled student stages. Responsible for planning and implementing a comprehensive recruitment strategy to meet enrollment goals within an assigned territory. Represent the University on-campus by meeting with prospective students and their families to conduct admission interviews or information sessions. Responsible for facilitating group visits to campus as requested by schools or organizations within assigned recruiting territory. Participate in all scheduled College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) admissions events on campus, from Discover Days, to Academic Scholarship Competition Days, Arts Scholarship Days, Siena Heights Orientation Days, and New Student Check-in/Move-in Days, as well as all rotating Saturday morning office assignments. Represent the University off-campus by traveling to secondary schools to meet with and present Siena information to prospective students, college counselors and SHU alumni educators, as well as travel to Catholic churches for presentations to youth groups. Responsible for attending college fairs and other special events within territory. Relationship development with prospective students, parents, school and church officials, Siena alumni, and others, while successfully collaborating with faculty, staff, administrators and current students on the Siena campus. Responsible for comprehensive application management within territory, from initial application solicitation and receipt, to oversight of file completion, to first-reader review of application, essay and transcript(s) and possible addition of personal statement, letters of recommendation and optional standardized testing materials, to producing CORE grade point average calculations on all complete application files. Responsible for recommending an admission decision and initiating production of a decision letter on all one-reader files. Responsible for preparing all two-reader files for Admissions Committee review and serving as a voting member of the committee. Provide advising regarding college choice, academic program selection and degree development, academic transcript evaluation, as well as counsel regarding financial aid and college financing options.

Responsible for guiding prospective students through the financial aid process by encouraging completion of SHU’s Net Price Calculator, preparing financial aid Early Estimates and Letters of Intent for student-athletes and student-performing artists, soliciting receipt of the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA), completing financial aid worksheets, monitoring verification paperwork, and packaging and locking financial aid awards for students from assigned territory assisted by Office of Financial Aid staff. Develop proficiency with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions’ CRM and supplemental electronic recruiting platforms, along with the University-wide computer operating system to maximize student recruiting potential. Provide effective follow-up with prospective students throughout the recruiting process via phone calls, Zoom meetings, emails, text messaging, social media, mailed correspondence and hand-written notes. Direct the work flow of one or more current students employed to assist the Admissions Office with prospective-student recruitment. Generate weekly enrollment projection reports, maintain travel records, file travel expense reports, and access available data to inform effective recruiting efforts and successful results. Participate in weekly staff meetings and occasional workshops, conferences, and professional development opportunities. Beyond territory recruiting responsibilities, position may involve other duties within scope of office’s responsibilities as defined by supervisor.

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university. The ideal candidate will be a strong advocate of and articulate spokesperson for the value of a Liberal Arts education offered within a faith-based institution. Demonstrated self-initiative, along with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Organizational and planning skills, with attention to detail. Strong relationship-building and networking skills involving internal and external constituents. Computer skills and proficiency with computer software. Desirable personal qualities include a genuine interest in people, a collaborative work style, individual drive, sense of humor, personal energy and attitude to enhance the University’s visibility and recognition, optimism, resilience, and a willingness to work until the job is completed. Evening and weekend hours and travel will be required.
