The position is responsible for implementing and maintaining various health, safety, and environmental programs as directed by the Safety Manager to ensure the highest possible degree of safety for employees and the company. Inspect facilities in accordance with all applicable state and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA/TCEQ, FMSCA (DOT), and NFPA. Create and maintain a safe work environment for all employees.

This position will be based out of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace; conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices and advise the Safety Manager in developing or implementing corrective actions.
  • Assist facility managers with completing necessary HSE documentation and provide training as assigned by the Safety Manager.
  • Coordinate with the Safety Manager and facility managers on the implementation of established safety policies handbook and site-specific policies throughout facilities
  • Coordinate safety training within the learning management system for new and existing employees as assigned.
  • Investigate accidents involving company trucks, interview witnesses and drivers to determine causes of accidents, and adjust in accordance with governmental regulatory agencies and company procedures as assigned by the Safety Manager.
  • Train supervisors and employees on the safety and conservation of equipment and driving hazards.
  • Perform job hazard assessments and recommend measures to control exposures, including the use of PPE and workplace changes as assigned.
  • Consult with the Safety Manager concerning problems such as accident rates and abuse of equipment and recommend measures to improve safety records and conservation of equipment.
  • Investigate on-the-job injuries, determine causes, and manage the case from start to finish as assigned by the Safety Manager.

  • Possess a high level of technical expertise and the ability to apply skills to continuous process improvement while maintaining maximum levels of safety.
  • Strong training and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop and teach safety classes.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and being flexible to changing work environments.
  • Excellent communication skills up and down organizational structure.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent people and process management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Excel, Tasks, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel to all company locations. (60% Overnight Travel)

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • N/A

Education and/or Experience

  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Safety/Occupational Health or related field preferred.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of 29 CFR 1910 regulations.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in safety and compliance.
  • Experience in FMSCA (DOT) compliance a plus.
  • OSHA 501/511, OSHA 30-hour (or equivalent) training.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
