Overview

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Analytical Chemist performs a wide variety of analytical assessments to support R&D, operations, field engineering, quality and sales/marketing related primarily to pressure sensitive adhesive tape products.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education/Certification Requirements

Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of industrial experience or Master’s Degree in Chemistry

Experience

Experience using analytical methods including chromatography (GC, HPLC, GPC), spectroscopy (UV-VIS, IR, MS, XRF), thermal analysis (TGA, DSC), Extraction (SPME), and rheology.

Knowledge

Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite

Working knowledge of statistics, including Design of Experiments

Skills/Abilities

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to analyze and interpret analytical data and provide conclusions and recommendations.

Ability to manage multiple projects with a sense of urgency.

Ability to work independently and ensure tasks are completed within a team environment.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is a fast-paced work environment with consistent pressure to complete duties as outlined above which requires ability to manage multiple projects at a detailed level and provide support to many internal departments in a fast-changing environment. Many duties listed above are time-sensitive and have strict deadlines for completion.

  • Work in the laboratory, office, and production environments
  • Travel may be involved to visit other company facilities, visiting suppliers, and customers

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepare laboratory samples for analytical characterization, including wet chemistry methods (e.g. extractions).
  • Execute R&D projects that may include adhesive formulation and analytical testing of formulations.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical instrumentation.
  • Plan and organize project activities.
  • Provide written project reports.
  • Provide interpretation of analytical test results.
  • Assist in the development of new test methods.
  • Ensure the preventative maintenance programs for testing equipment are followed.
  • Involved with the laboratory’s responsibilities for adhesive chemistry research, perform tests, maintain the lab equipment, and lab supplies.
  • Maintains clean, orderly working conditions in laboratory.
  • Maintains records of laboratory test results and experimental observations and documents this information.
  • Enters testing results in laboratory information management system (LIMS).
  • Understands and follows all safety and equipment operating procedures.
  • Performs analytical tests to support Manufacturing for quality control of raw materials.
  • Performs any other duties and project work assigned by R&D management.
