Posted: May 2, 2024 Closed: May 23, 2024Position: District ProgramBegins with 2024-2025 school year.Elementary Therapeutic Program School Adjustment CounselorShrewsbury Public Schools is looking for a full-time, qualified School Adjustment Counselor/Social Worker-licensed individual to join the district Elementary Therapeutic program located at Major Howard W. Beal Elementary. The Adjustment Counselor/Social Worker for the Elementary Therapeutic Program will support students experiencing behavioral, social, emotional or mental health challenges. This position will be part of a multidisciplinary team that directly assesses student needs and develops support programming to gain the necessary skills to maintain academic progress and gain meaningful inclusion opportunities. The Elementary Therapeutic Program's Adjustment Counselor/Social Worker will provide clinical support to students facing challenges in behavior, social interactions, emotions, or mental health that may impede their ability to fully participate in meaningful inclusion opportunities. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, this individual will evaluate students' needs and create specialized programs to help them develop the necessary skills to succeed academically.Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:•Provide social/emotional support to students through a multi-tiered system of support model.•Provide assessment and intervention of acute mental health needs of students.•Ability to provide direct service to students with mental health behavioral/social needs via small therapeutic groups and 1:1 counseling.•Competency in data collection via progress monitoring social emotional and behavioral health concerns.•Works as a liaison between classroom teachers, counselors, administration, outside agencies, parents and students.•Collaborates and coordinates with administrators and staff to develop and modify individualized behavior programming and behavior plans as necessary.•Works effectively with the district BCBAs, School Psychologists, and Consulting Psychiatrist.•Responsible for cooperating and consulting as a team member with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel for purposes of diagnosing, evaluating, and recommending interventions for the adjustment of students.•Seeks out and implements evidence-based counseling techniques to deliver short-term counseling interventions to resolve immediate conflicts/problems; intervene in student-specific situations that disrupt learning for re-entry to the classroom environment.•Supports re-entry from hospitalization due to social/emotional difficulties, medically fragile (i.e., concussion), and long-term medical absences.•Open communication with families about student performance and respond promptly and carefully to communication from families.•Regularly reflects on practice, individually and with colleagues.•Facilitate the successful transition of students between grades and schools.•Be knowledgeable and prepared for student crisis response and threat assessment.•Make referrals when appropriate to emergency services, psychiatric, and behavioral services.•Provides support to school personnel regarding student engagement, cultural diversity, and the delivery of educational support to students who have multiple risk factors.•Consistently seeks out and applies ideas for improving practice from supervisors, colleagues, and professional developmental activities to gain expertise.•Member of building Student Well-Being Team.•Responsible for providing outreach and follow-up for students, including potential home visits as needed, due to attendance problems/concerns.•Demonstrate respect for the confidentiality of staff and students’ information and records by always maintaining a high standard of confidentiality.•Other duties as assigned by building administration or directors.Preferred:•Actively demonstrates the values of Shrewsbury Public Schools: respect for others, responsibility, collaboration, communication, commitment to high standards and expectations, and equity.•Possesses licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor, All Levels.•Possesses licensure from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a LCSW, LICSW, or LMHC.•Has obtained a Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology.•Experience in special education settings and/or applied behavior analysis.•Evidence of mastery of clinical skills including ability to implement evidence-based interventions for group work, individual counseling, case management, and crisis intervention.•Works flexibly in the changing school environment.Physical and Environmental Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
