Posted: May 8, 2024 Closed: May 22, 2024Employment Opportunity: Shrewsbury Public SchoolsPOSITION: Job Coach/ABA Technician for RISE (18-22 year) Program2024-2025 School YearThe Shrewsbury Public School’s 18–22-year-old RISE program (Reaching Independence through Supported Employment) is seeking individuals to assist teachers, service providers, and other personnel in the delivery of transition services in school, community and vocational settings for students with moderate to severe special needs.This position will be for the 2024-2025 school year with the potential to begin during the summer program in July.Training will be provided on the job, working with the teachers and Program Coordinator, and could happen both on and off-site.The hourly rate for this position is $23.05-$27.98 per hour, based on experience. This position works a school year schedule plus opening day for staff as well as the paraprofessional development day. In addition, this position will have a summer assignment lasting approximately four to six weeks. The successful finalists will be eligible for benefits and membership in the Shrewsbury Paraprofessional Association. Staff schedules will be stable but could fluctuate between school and retail hours.The chosen candidates will assist the teachers and service providers with instruction in functional academics, vocational skills, community-based instruction, and adaptive daily living skills.Pre-employment requisites needed to access employment, vocational and community-access skills will be taught in and outside of school, and as such, the chosen candidates must be comfortable working in the school, vocational and community-based settings.We are interested in candidates who are invested in the achievement, equity, and access of all learners in and beyond the classroom.Candidates with diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, religious, class, and/or gender background and experiences are strongly encouraged to apply.Position Details•Assist students with accessing community settings (including recreational and volunteer opportunities)•Assist students in employment training via job coaching•Assist students in an educational setting (Shrewsbury and/or at college campuses) in both small groups and/or individually•Maintain record keeping and paperwork (data sheets on IEP goals, student self-assessment forms, etc.)•Assist with personal care needs in all settings as needed•Assist with travel training (vans, public transportation, etc.)•Promote students’ independence in educational, community, and vocational settings•Maintain working relationships with community sites•Other duties as assignedPreferred:•Positive, energetic, flexible team player with a strong problem-solving approach•Experience working with young adults/students with moderate to severe disabilities •Exhibits the core values of Shrewsbury Public Schools•Works flexibly in a changing environment•Commitment to ensuring student achievement and success•Ability to work a 4–6-week summer program is required•Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive the school/program van is requiredPhysical Demands and Work Environment•While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively.•The employee must frequently stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, and run.•The employee must occasionally be able to lift and/or safely move objects.•The employee must be able to work in a noisy, stressful, high-pressure environment and still be able to concentrate and keep students safe.•Ability to respond to emergency situations.•May assist medically fragile or physically disabled students for the purpose of maintaining students’ personal hygiene.•Must be able to drive the school van or other provided vehicle to transport a student or students to job sites.The physical demands described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
