Shoreview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is Hiring a Therapeutic Recreation Aide (Art, Music, Dance Therapy) Near Brooklyn, NY

Shoreview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, is actively seeking a Full-Time Recreational Aide to join our team of professionals in the Recreation Department.

Shift 8am-4pm and every other weekend

Job description

Must fulfill the goals and objectives of the Therapeutic Recreation Department, in regard to resident rights, overall care and in the general working philosophy of the Therapeutic Recreation Department, as well as professionally reflect the mission statement of the facility.

Assists in the development, coordination and execution of a wide range of activities for residents to improve functioning, enhance self esteem, promote creativity and self expression, while providing comfort, validation and reassurance. Functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary Health Care Team in all areas related to the Therapeutic Recreation Department.

  • Will lead/co-lead activity programs for a diverse nursing home and rehabilitation center.
  • Additional duties include escort of residents to activities, mail delivery, assisting with resident community trips, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, and/or 2 years experience working with a diverse population, including geriatrics. Art, Music, Dance Therapy or related field
  • Proficiency with computer
  • Excellent oral and written communication, leadership, time management, decision making and motivation skills
  • Able to address the psychosocial needs of residents
  • The ability to deal effectively and professionally with emotional residents, visitors or family members
  • The ability to relate to geriatric, infirmed and sub-acute population
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language required
  • Prior experience in long-term care facility preferred
  • Dedication to the elderly, medically frail, persons with dementia.
  • Must have an outgoing, friendly, person-centered personality.
  • Must be able to develop and independently facilitate both group and individual activities.
  • Must be able to complete recreational needs assessments and develop individualized care plans for residents.
  • Must be able to maintain accurate statistical reports of all activities conducted.
  • Must be able to transport/escort residents to various locations throughout the facility for recreational pursuits.
  • Bilingual English / Russian a plus
