Shore Educational Collaborative is Hiring a Food Service Coordinator Near Chelsea, MA

Shore Educational Collaborative was established in 1975 as one of 24 educational collaboratives in Massachusetts, providing public special education to students with disabilities. Over 180 students aged 3-22 attend our school in Chelsea, receiving a comprehensive education and related services.

The Food Service Coordinator will be responsible for managing and ensuring compliance with all day to day operations of the school meal program (breakfasts and lunches), ensuring a high quality food service operation that is in compliance with the National School Lunch Program. Meals are provided by an outside food service provider, managed by the Food Service Coordinator, under the direction of the Director of Operations & Director of Student Services

Qualifications:

  • ServSafe Certification preferred; ability and willingness to become certified required.
  • Knowledge of the National School Lunch Program preferred; willingness to become an expert in the program required.
  • Experience in school setting and/or with students with special needs preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Ensures breakfasts and lunches are packed, labeled, and available/delivered as scheduled on a daily basis.
  • Meets food service vendor daily to ensure that all delivered goods meet requirements (counts, temperatures, food allergy substitutions, quality, supplies, etc.)
  • Ensures all health and safety standards are maintained with respect to kitchen area and all associated equipment.
  • Completes all daily and monthly paperwork accurately and on time, and display as required. (e.g. Point of Service forms and menu)
  • Records temperature logs of refrigerators and the heating unit daily. Addresses issues as needed. Files log monthly.
  • Cleans kitchen daily, including tables, sinks and refrigerator doors.
  • Completes thorough monthly cleaning of the refrigerators and heating unit.
  • Organizes all aspects of the kitchen on a daily basis ensuring clean and orderly storage of dry food and supplies, work tables and refrigerator.
  • Maintains an accurate and current inventory of all food items, supplies and equipment and re-stocking as needed to insure availability at all times. (e.g. allergy bags.)
  • Oversees and mentors/trains students/others who may be involved in packaging or delivery of meals.
  • Interacts with and provides customer service to Shore staff, students, food services vendor, transportation providers. 
  • Communicates with the Director of Operations to ensure billing and reimbursement processes are timely and accurate
  • Attends mandatory trainings and meetings.

Condition of Employment:

  • Acceptable CORI, SORI, (updated every 3 years) and Fingerprint-based National Background Check.
  • Signed Physician’s statement to fully participate without restriction in any and all physical demands of the position including standing and walking for extended periods of time, bending, reaching overhead, grasping, pushing and moving; lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds to waist height, as well as visual acuity to maintain/post records and assess/meet kitchen cleanliness standards and ability to effectively communicate with students, co-workers and others.
  • Acquire and maintain required certifications for this position which may include ServSafe Certification, Allergy Awareness, SafetyCare, CPR, and/or First Aid. These trainings may take place after standard hours and at a location different from assigned work
  • Reliable attendance and professionalism at all times.

Terms of Employment:

  • This position works 7 hours per day during the 180-day school year (and 3 working days prior to school opening and 1 after school closing) as well as the Summer program (July-August, typically 25 days).
  • Calendar will be determined in advance of each session; however it is subject to change based on no school days to ensure completion of the required 180 days school year.
  • Daily Schedule: 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. when school is in session Monday through Friday.
  • This is an hourly position. The pay rate is competitive, and includes benefits and paid time off.

This position participates in the Massachusetts State Retirement System's pension plan.
