Southwest Division

Shimmick’s Southwest Division, headquartered in Irvine, California, focuses on large public owners in Southern California, across water resources, water treatment, transportation, and transit markets. Over the past decade, the division has grown tremendously, securing major projects, including the $828 million Gerald Desmond Bridge, the first cable-stayed vehicular bridge in California.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Under limited supervision, responsible for moderately complex technical work in a wide range of environmental, safety and health disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains current knowledge of specific government agency requirements.
  • Exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of their environmental specialty. Independently determines and develops approaches to solutions.
  • Develops, implements and maintains safety and health programs, systems and procedures.
  • Monitors and prevents hazards and diseases in the work area.
  • Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace.
  • Recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazards.
  • Develops and conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs.
  • Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice.
  • May act as a lead role for a team of ES&H specialists and/or support personnel.
  • May administer an ES&H program on a small or medium-sized project.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupation Safety & Health, Environmental Health, or related field 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education -OR- AA/AS in a related field 6 years of related experience -OR- High School Diploma/GED 8 years of related experience
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • OSHA 500 and/or 510 Certifications
  • Curent First Aid, CPR, and AED Instructor certifications
  • Valid Driver's License is required
  • Must have the ability to climb ladders while maintaining three points of contact

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous heavy civil construction project experience
  • OHST (Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technicians) or CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technicians)

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.

The salary range for this position is between $80,000 to $102,000 depending on experience and/or education.

Shimmick's comprehensive benefits plan includes medical, dental and vision coverage; as well as options to participate in an FSA or HSA. The Company also provides employer paid STD, LTD, basic life and AD&D, and an Employee Assistance Program. Additional voluntary benefit offerings include pet insurance, hospital indemnity, critical illness insurance, legal and identity theft protection.

These benefits are available to all employees working more than 20 hours per week. Employees working less than 20 hours per week are eligible for medical, dental and vision coverage as well as EAP services.
