Description

 About Us:

Shaffer is a leading provider of horizontal mixers and dough processing equipment to the global baking industry. We provide customized solutions and total support to customers, allowing them to mix their products precisely and efficiently.

Position Summary:

Use hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Demonstrates ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Cleans and maintains job site, tools, etc.
  • Consistently follows workplace safety procedures.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical or overhead position.
  • Read blue prints for use in welding and fabrication.
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, manipulate, grind and/or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding.
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment and/or defective materials and notify supervisors.
  • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
  • Examine work pieces for defects and measure with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance and specifications.
  • Recognize, set-up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade including; TIG and gas metal arc welding equipment.
  • Reliable attendance is critical.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Skills/Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience with MIG and TIG processes.
  • Familiar with roll forming/press break operations.
  • 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or military environment with demonstrated ability to work with limited guidance.
  • Ability to read blueprints with knowledge of welding symbols.
  • Ability to produce consistent, quality welds.
  • Prior welding experience with stainless steel highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy and understanding of joint geometry preferred.
  • Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, squat, or kneel regularly as well as climb stairs/ladders.
  • Good vision, hearing, smell, and balance.
  • A successful weld test is required as part of the candidate screening process.
