Job Description:

This is a Sherman Associates owned Starbucks franchise location.

The Store Manager is responsible for driving the development of people, culture, and overall environment of the store. With proven history of retail success, the Store Manager ensures the effective and efficient operation of the store and is ultimately responsible for achieving customer satisfaction, brand standard execution and positive financial performance. In addition, the Store Manager works closely with the local community to establish close relationships and build support for the store.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Core Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the effective operation of the store and delivering high quality service to customers and team members
  • Knowledge of every operational function
  • Develops strategies to improve operating efficiencies
  • Completes a daily walk through/inspects the interior and exterior of the store, and fixes any deficiencies
  • Takes appropriate steps to ensure facilities meet standards
  • Uses designated reports to drive revenue and profit, historical information, and related information
  • Controls staff payroll costs, approves schedules based on forecasted numbers, reviews, and approves weekly staff schedules, and monitors staffing levels on a daily basis
  • Maintains professional relationships with outside vendors and contacts
  • Maintains effective, positive, and timely communication at all levels within the store, brand representatives, Sherman management, community partners, and customers
  • Implements and adheres to all brand standards and initiatives
  • Ensures compliance with all brand quality assurance audits
  • Prepares reports as requested to evaluate work activities and improve management decision-making
  • Ensures full compliance to store operating controls, SOPs, policies, procedures, and service standards
  • Identifies potential obstacles to exemplary service
  • Uses available tools and knowledge to implement ideas to maximize customer satisfaction
  • Responsible for ordering and receiving food, beverage, dry and paper goods, based on budget and needs of the business
  • Completes timely coding of invoices according to vendor contracts
  • Responsible for food inventories following Inventory Best Practices to ensure they are taken on a timely and accurate basis to ensure targeted food and beverage costs are maintained
  • Demonstrates current and working knowledge of drip coffee, cold beverage, espresso bar, and pastry stations
  • Maintains daily, weekly as well as period financial reports.
  • Ensures entire cash handling and register functions are performed accurately and consistently.
  • Responsible for managing the recruitment of the store; staffing needs, interviewing, hiring, etc.
  • Provides continuing performance feedback to employees and conducts annual performance reviews.
  • Completes other tasks and duties as assigned based on business needs.

2. Leadership

  • Responsible for effectively interviewing, hiring, coaching, and developing team members
  • Train and prepare employees to demonstrate entire Starbucks client service standards, star skills and operating standards.
  • Prepares and conducts annual employee reviews in a timely manner
  • Addresses performance issues accordingly and takes appropriate corrective action to hold employees accountable
  • Motivates staff by setting goals, providing ongoing feedback, and rewarding/recognizing employees
  • Provides fair treatment and maintains an open-door policy for all team members
  • Monitor service and teamwork on a regular basis and coach employees as needed
  • Provides staff with skills training to provide value added service to customers
  • Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together
  • Demonstrate a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events and manages smooth transitions thereafter to keep store operating to a high standard and to set a positive example for the team.
  • Displays a customer comes first attitude by training and holding partners accountable for delivering legendary customer service.
  • Drives the implementation of company programs by developing action plans and directly motivating and instructing the store team to implement them to meet operational and organizational objectives.
  • Manages with integrity, honesty and knowledge that promote the culture, values and mission of Starbucks and Sherman Associates.
  • Plans, identifies, communicates, and delegates appropriate responsibilities and practices to store partners to ensure smooth flow of operations.
  • Provides coaching and direction to the store team to take action and to achieve operational goals. Constantly reviews store environment and key business indicators to identify problems, concerns, and opportunities for improvement.

3. Financial Responsibility

  • Manages and maintains company assets; stays within budget guidelines and prolongs the life of company resources
  • Regularly reviews, analyzes, and interpret reports (financial, market, general)
  • Meets budgeted sales, profit, and expense targets
  • Monitors and controls all costs to meet budgeted profitability, and takes corrective action where required
  • Utilizes critical tools such as check book, forecasting/planning software
  • Reviews Profit and Loss (P&L) Statement on a monthly basis, generates monthly P&L critique, and articulates any variances as necessary

4. Sales Responsibility

  • Implements store’s revenue and yield management strategy
  • Creates action plans to achieve budgeted revenue, solicitation goals, costs, and profitability
  • Maximizes use of brand resources
  • Understands the strategic positioning of the store and how the products offered compare within the competitive market for targeted market segments
  • Uses distribution channels and technology platforms to drive revenue and maximize market share

5. Customer Focus

  • Works as a team player and interacts with all internal and external customers in a friendly/efficient manner
  • All customers must be treated in a manner to ensure their complete satisfaction
  • Always strives to exceed guest expectations and meet brand standards
  • Safeguards the store’s interests by resolving and taking appropriate actions on all customer complaints/problems
  • Communicates customer feedback to staff and addresses trends/issues with staff in a timely manner
  • Encourages and collaborates with team to set an example of the expected level of customer service

6. Accountability

  • Produces required volume of work by planning, organizing, and prioritizing work duties
  • Adheres to Sherman Associates attendance policy, grooming and appearance standards, general work rules, and department procedures
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment, follows all procedures for customer and employee incidents , and is knowledgeable of emergency procedures
  • Responsible for conducting routine inspections of the store operation/building to maintain standards of Sherman Associates, brand, local, state and federal regulations
  • Ensures OSHA Management and Compliance
  • Effectively leads team meetings
  • Hours vary including early mornings, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
Required Experience:
  • Minimum of one year of management experience (required)
  • 3 years of restaurant, retail, or guest experience and/or combined experience and education
  • Knowledge of the geographic area is preferred, or demonstrated ability/process for learning new geographic areas (required)
  • A solid understanding of profit and loss statements, as well as the ability to create, and adhere to an annual budget (required)
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Entrepreneurial mentality with experience in a sales focused environment
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to coach and mentor team partners with professional maturity
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook PowerPoint, and POS Systems
  • Must have excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills; Ability to communicate effectively with community partners, vendors, external parties, and across internal divisions
