WHERE YOU FIT IN

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a genuine interest in energy, technology, and a passion to deliver products for a growing company. The Product Owner will drive successful product implementations for our business stakeholders. This position is a fully integrated member of the IT Products and Projects team with responsibilities that span from idea development to post-launch analysis. 

The role will work closely with stakeholders as well as development teams, external vendors, and other Product Owners to deliver impactful and meaningful solutions that address key business goals and enhance user satisfaction. The ideal candidate will have an end-to-end understanding of the customer lifecycle for both commercial and residential retail energy customers, with a commitment to continuous improvement. This role also works very closely with many teams across Shell Energy and Shell to evolve the product roadmap and communicate delivery schedules. Key successes will come from meeting expected return on investment metrics which will drive Shell Energy growth expectations.

Reporting into the Enterprise Product Owner/Supervisor, the role requires self-motivated, dedicated, and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Responsible for shaping the future evolution, development, and integration of applications that impact customer management and valuation to ensure return on investment expectations and customer satisfaction
  • Work directly with stakeholders to understand areas for business process design and enhancement by way of evaluating and making recommendations on specifications for new features or system enhancements
  • Provide technical and financial analytics
  • Develop all necessary design, feature and user story requirements, and testing specifications to be used by the development and quality assurance teams for sprint-ready qualifications
  • Work collaboratively within an Agile teams to produce high quality software applications
  • Translate high-level strategy & product direction into epics, features and user stories: prioritize in the product backlog for selection in sprint backlogs
  • Evaluate the quality of ongoing project work efforts and ensure work proceeds according to schedule
  • Provide direct input on the product roadmap to align with company goals, milestones, strategy, and budget
  • Define long-term, short-term, and daily work priorities to guide the effort of the development team working in a scrum approach
  • Responsible for change management including the notification to all impacted departments to ensure changes are well understood and meet their needs 
  • Prioritize and own backlog refinement sessions and drive acceptance testing and the delivery of iterations
  • Communicate proactively on status, changes, gaps, and workarounds clearly and succinctly to all project stakeholders including third party vendor(s)
  • Responsible for communicating overall project status and needed escalation to the leadership team if scope, budget, or timeline is at risk
  • Maintain open and proactive communication with supervisor and team members around resourcing needs and team capacity
  • Lead demos and training for departments impacted by new features
  • Give and receive feedback from Retrospectives with Delivery Teams to share best practices and continuously improve quality
  • Assist in testing on an as-needed basis
  • Other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in a business, technological or related field 
  • 5 years of experience in roles in the Retail Energy space, such as a Functional Business Subject Matter Expert, Product Owner, Project Manager, Developer, Business Analyst, or Data Analyst, with a demonstrated history of contributing to organizational success
  • Experience in various operational and financial functions of retail power (i.e., retail pricing and structuring, historical usage acquisition, load forecasting, risk analysis, retail settlements, market transactions, billing, transaction management, collections, etc.)
  • Experience implementing software projects for consumer-facing applications, solving problems preferably for commercial & industrial and residential customers or brokers
  • Experience with retail power pricing, contracting, billing systems, Customer Information Systems (CIS), and/or Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) systems; experience with AWS, Salesforce, Excelergy, Intelometry, and ESG is a plus 
  • Experience supporting teams and projects in a fast-paced environment, with often overlap of projects and priorities
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Outlook, and strong Excel skills
  • Proficient use of diagraming tools (i.e., Visio, Lucid), project management tools (i.e. MS Project), and product management tools (Lucid, Miro, Mural, Azure DevOps, Confluence, Jira, etc.)
  • Proficiency with data analytics tools (e.g., Dremio, Snowflake, Tableau, PowerBI, SSMS) and a strong understanding of SQL or other reporting languages is preferred
  • Experience in a product management role with API’s, cross-system functionality, and other types of integrations (file transfers, ETLs, middleware, webhooks, etc.)
  • Experience in gathering requirements, engaging with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, defining product strategy and roadmaps, translating requirements to development and QA teams and being the voice of the business
  • Experience working with outside vendors and system implementors to drive on-schedule and on-budget delivery
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; must be able to provide timely and accurate data analysis
  • Strong business writing skills and experience developing communication in various formats.

LOCATION & WORK SCHEDULE

  • Required to be in-person, as needed, in downtown Houston, TX through a hybrid workplace environment.
