Sheldon Independent School District is Hiring a Principal - 9th Grade Campus Near Houston, TX

Primary Purpose:

To improve student achievement and performance both academically and socially. Direct and manage the instructional program and supervise operations at the campus level. Provide instructional leadership to ensure high standards of instructional service. Direct the implementation of district policies and instructional programs and manage the operations of all campus activities.

Supporting and carrying out the established vision and partnering with the comprehensive high school principal, the ninth-grade campus principal has a unique set of job responsibilities which include, but are not limited to, ongoing collaboration with the high school principal and implementation of all aspects of the campus to address the needs of ninth graders. While the ninth-grade campus students are part of the climate and culture of the comprehensive high school, they are set apart on the ninth-grade campus to allow them additional opportunities to develop the necessary skills to transition to the comprehensive high school campus.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Master’s degree in educational administration
  • Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
  • Certified T-TESS appraiser

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Ability to coordinate campus functions
  • Ability to implement and explain policy, procedures and data
  • Ability to interpret data

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Management and Leading Learning:

  • Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions.
  • Solicit regular input from the campus-level committee about planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of campus education programs. Include students and community representatives when appropriate.
  • Establish clear expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public.
  • Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.

School or Organization Morale:

  • Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
  • Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.
  • Provide for two-way communication with the superintendent, staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance to staff and students. Recognize excellence and achievement.

Executive Leadership:

  • Build a common vision for school improvement with staff. Direct planning activities and put programs in place with staff to ensure the attainment of the school’s mission.
  • Identify, analyze, and apply research findings (e.g., effective school correlates) to promote school improvement.
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators in such a way that it demonstrates the moral imperative to educate all children and follow the practices and procedures of Sheldon ISD.
  • Establish campus performance objectives for State accountability using the campus planning process and involving a site-based decision-making committee. Demonstrate campus progress using results to promote school improvement.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

Personnel Management:

  • Interview, select, and orient new staff. Approve all personnel assigned to campus.
  • Define expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public.
  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff.
  • Assign and promote campus personnel.
  • Make recommendations to the superintendent on termination, suspension, or nonrenewal of employees assigned to campus.
  • Work with campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities.
  • Confer with subordinates regarding their professional growth. Work with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.

Management of Fiscal, Administrative, and Facilities Functions:

  • Comply with district policies and state and federal laws and regulations affecting the schools.
  • Develop campus budgets based on documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs. Keep programs within budget limits. Maintain fiscal control. Accurately report fiscal information.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required including accurate and timely reports of maximum attendance to requisition textbooks.
  • Manage use of school facilities. Supervise maintenance of facilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe campus.
  • Direct and manage extracurricular and intramural programs including management of multiple activity funds.

Student Management:

  • Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.

Professional Growth and Development:

  • Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior. Serve as a role model for all campus staff.

School or Community Relations:

  • Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

Other:

  • Perform any and all duties as assigned.
  • Successfully advances district initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of staff assigned to campus

including assistant principal(s), teachers, counselor(s), librarian(s), instructional aides,

and clerical support staff.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district-wide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours. May be required to perform job duties including the ability to conduct instruction, attend meetings and professional development, and make and receive phone calls in a virtual or remote workplace environment.
