What to expect: 
Assist and learn required electrical installation and repair services to building systems and equipment for all Sheboygan County facilities in compliance with established codes, specifications, and safety practices.
  • Assists Electrician to install, maintain, and repair low voltage, electrical power transmission, generator, UPS, lighting, communication, signal, camera, keycard and alarm systems, apparatus and equipment up to and including 480VAC.
  • Troubleshoots circuit and control problems under Senior Electrician’s supervision.
  • On-call for electrical, security and fire alarm failures.
  • Installs new wiring for building or equipment following sketches, blueprints, instructions or layout, including motors and motor starting switches and checks and adjusts new equipment for proper operating characteristics under the direction of the Electrician.
  • Work along side outside electrical contractors when called upon for assistance.
  • Performs and records required preventive maintenance procedures on facility equipment.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner, and performs assignments in a safe manner in accordance with established procedures.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned.
  • State Certified Commercial Journeyman Electrician license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of licensing as Commercial Journeyman Electrician.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, materials, and processes of the craft.
  • Familiarity with instruments related to determining problems in all phases of electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, ladder diagrams, and specifications.
  • Skill in the use of testing equipment and measuring devices used in repair or evaluations of electrical systems.
  • Able to utilize computers for diagnosing and configuring equipment, security and fire alarms, payroll and email systems.
  • Valid driver’s license will be required.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
  • Works well with and communicates politely and effectively with others in the Department, Department heads and managers, utility staff, vendors, technical support, contractors, inspectors, FAA and DOC staff as well as the general public. 
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions throughout all seasons including temperatures below zero or above 90º with high humidity.
  • Exposed to noise, fumes, odors, dust or poor ventilation. Hazardous exposure includes proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electric current, working on lifts and high places. Frequently required to wear personal protective equipment such as gloves, safety glasses and vests.
  • Occasionally in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes and confined spaces which could cause claustrophobia. Required to function in narrow passageways.
  • Required to stand for long periods, walking, climbing ladders, scaffolding, poles, radio and water towers, stooping, crouching, kneeling, grasping, reach with hands and arms, pushing/pulling to drag, haul or tug objects.
  • Must be able to talk to exchange ideas and hear with or without correction to perceive the nature and discrimination in sound. Required to have close visual acuity to perform duties such as viewing computer monitors and meters, visual inspections, working small defects, color, depth perception and field of vision as well as to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds including hanging light fixtures, motors or pulling wires in conduit.
