Role and Responsibilities

The Shop Laborer (Shaft Straightener) is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to assist in machine shop activities that may include, bundling, unbundling, and straightening shafts as well as processing incoming stock and materials, picking and filling orders from stock, packing and shipping orders, or managing, organizing and retrieving stock in the shop. Assisting Machine Operators in a timely and efficient manner to minimize production down time, as well as perform other routine maintenance tasks as required to support production. 

• Always make safety a priority. Wear the proper safety equipment.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment by keeping workstation neat; sweep, dust, mop, and pick up trash.
• Assist Machinists with everyday tasks.
• Bundle and unbundle shafts.
• Straighten shaft by using a shaft pinger and dial indicators. 
• Operate Jib Crane.
• Open crates, bundles, and other containers.
• Sort and place materials on racks, shelves or in bins according to organizational standards.
• Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
• Learn and know Custom Pipe policies and procedures, conducting oneself in a positive and professional manner, promoting team unity and continuity.
• Communication professionally with all customers, other employees, and supervisors. 
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• To perform this job successfully, an individual must be willing to learn and improve to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 
• High school diploma or GED required. Adequate work experience may be substituted in lieu of diploma or GED. 
• Good manual dexterity, vision, hearing, eye-hand coordination and be physically capable of performing heavy work.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. 
• Must be able to work overtime as needed. 

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of how to use Tape Measure
• Experience operating warehouse equipment, such as forklift, electric lifts, hand trucks, and pallet jacks is an advantage. 
• Must be dependable, hardworking and an effective communicator.

• Satisfactory pre-employment drug testing is required.
