SGA YOUTH & FAMILY SERVICES NFP is Hiring a Family Service Worker Near Chicago, IL

Description

SGA provides a wide range of social services in some of Chicago's most challenged and consistently underserved communities and creates long-term and community-wide change.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Assist in planning and implementing a developmentally and culturally appropriate curriculum for FCCH.
  • Develop and maintain meaningful, productive relationships with families. 
  • Prepare and/or arrange for all materials that are needed for the smooth operation of educational activities and visits.
  • Assist parents with understanding and implementing the Family Partnership Agreement. 
  • Identify services currently available and those needed by families enrolled in the Early Head Start Program. 
  • Develop relationships with other community-based service providers targeting parenting families. 
  • Refer and link children and parents to needed services including but not limited to (EI/LEA, WIC, housing, food pantries, medical clinics, etc.)
  • Work in collaboration with other SGA staff and consultants to monitor, track, and coordinate services for children and parents. 
  • Maintain participant family and provider records as required by agency and program standards. 
  • Monitor child attendance and implement protocols to follow-up on absenteeism. 
  • Monitor and ensure proper documentation for children’s files. Ensure the ongoing assessment/screening of each child enrolled in the FCCH Program. 
  • Assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of FCCH Providers and homes. 
  • Monitor TS Gold data (lesson plans, observations parent/teacher conference, etc.) and provide ongoing feedback to the FCCH providers. 
  • Conduct site visits every month using the comprehensive area lens to ensure compliance and that individualization is evident for children. 
  • Conduct environmental, health, and safety site visits on a monthly basis. 
  • Assist FCCH providers with Teaching Strategies Gold.
  • Monitor TS Gold data (lesson plans, observations parent/teacher conference, etc) and providers’ ongoing feedback to the FCCH providers.
  • Conduct formal individual child observations and provides ongoing feedback to the FCCH Providers and parents. 
  • Comply and enter data as required by program. 
  • Facilitate parent’s training and promote parents’ overall involvement and participation in the trainings. 
  • Be able to participate in staffings for families on their caseloads, as needed.
  • Assist in arranging training and guidance for FCCH Partners in respect to educational and disabilities implementation for children ages 0-3.
  • Assist in planning special events for participants. Work with program team to involve participants in these events.
  • Assist and participate in recruitment efforts, maintaining full enrollment, in recruitment of children with disabilities, and in maintaining written partnerships and relationships with community agencies.
  • Participate in the development of program policies, service delivery plans and ongoing monitoring of program quality. 
  • Monitor progress of children with identified special needs and adjust plans (Interim intervention plans, behavior support plans, IEP and IFSP implementation plans, etc.) as necessary to achieve positive gains. 
  • Participates in on-going training and staff development provided by DFSS, HS, and SGA, workshops and conferences. 
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating monthly meetings with the FCCH Providers
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings, family support meetings, social service and health meetings.
  • Serve as an advocate for Early Head Start families and as a liaison between families, the program, and the large community
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Development or Social Work preferred
  • Gateways Level 5 in Early Childhood Education or Level 5 in Family Service

Experience:

  • 1-3 years working with children age 0-5 preferred.

Other:

  • Must have reliable car for transportation as well as valid drivers’ license and automobile insurance. 

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Competent in Microsoft Office tools and inputting services in an online database.
  • Bilingual/Bicultural in English and Spanish preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to frequently move inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. 
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs.
  • Frequently moves desks, chairs, tables, easels, and children's toys. 
  • At times may be required to lift up to 25 lbs. for various classrooms and events needs. 
  • Frequently moves in outdoor weather conditions.
