Alt-Ed Behavior Specialist provides guidance and support to students, particularly those facing academic, social, or emotional challenges. They serve as trusted advocates, providing resources and referrals to appropriate services for students and other school staff. Alt-Ed Behavior Specialists work directly to stabilize and promote positive school culture and to aid students navigate obstacles they may encounter using prosocial behaviors. The Alt-Ed Behavior Specialists reports directly to the Team Leader/Dean to provide comprehensive support to students and staff of all departments.
What you can expect to do.
Collaborate with school staff, teachers, and leaders to support students with intensive behavioral needs. Realize the joy of possibility as you provide customized behavior support and utilize positive behavioral intervention. You will play an essential role as part of a multidisciplinary team in delivering holistic guidance.
  • Implementing effective, positive behavioral supports that increase students' appropriate behaviors and in turn, allow students to access the curriculum more effectively.
  • Support all staff with implementing effective behavioral and academic supports.
  • Assists staff and leadership to effectively support students who display challenging, violent, or otherwise inappropriate behaviors and keep careful, consistent documentation of behavioral incidents.
  • Trains and coaches other staff on the implementation of effective and safe crisis management techniques.
  • Actively supervises site hallways, common areas, classrooms, and other areas to ensure student and staff safety and reinforce appropriate behaviors.
  • Provides direction and leadership during arrival and dismissal processes.
  • Under the Supervision of Dean/Team Leader:
  • Assist in managing student disciplinary matters
  • Assist with coordinating student activities,
  • Providing guidance and support to students
  • Collaborate with all departments to promote student success and well-being
  • Assist in modeling pro-social behaviors

What we expect of you.
  • High School Diploma required
  • College experience and/or Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 3-5 years working with behavioral needs preferred
  • Experience, as well as a passion for working with youth is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
