Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) is Hiring a Program Coordinator, Health and Wellness - Edie Windsor SAGE Center Near New York, NY

SAGE is the world’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ ) older adults. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in New York City, SAGE is a national organization that offers supportive services and consumer resources for LGBTQ older adults and their caregivers, advocates for public policy changes that address the needs of LGBTQ older people, and provides cultural competency training for aging providers and LGBTQ organizations, largely through its National Resource Center on LGBTQ Aging and its growing social enterprise SAGECare.

Summary:
The primary function of the Program Coordinator, Health and Wellness is to identify, organize and manage health management, exercise, and nutrition programs for LGBTQ older adults at the Edie Windsor SAGE Center. This person must have some experience working with aging and/or LGBTQ communities; possess knowledge of the aging process in regard to healthy aging; and ideally have experience in programmatic design and implementation. They must be able to interact with, relate to and work with LGBTQ older adults, community partners and other departments at SAGE. This position is supervised by the Edie Windsor SAGE Center Site Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate innovative and sophisticated health and wellness programming for LGBTQ older adults at the Edie Windsor SAGE Center
  • Develop rapport with participants by interacting with them regularly
  • Facilitate health management, exercise and nutrition activities as assigned
  • Meet monthly programming unit goals specified by the Site Director
  • Work independently and collaboratively with programming staff to meet deadlines for creation of the program calendar and outreach material
  • Publicize events through the creation of printed flyers, announcements, and word of mouth
  • Represent SAGE at community events, conferences and trainings (e.g., health fairs, pride festivals) as needed
  • Develop relationships with community partners for the purpose of creating collaborative programming opportunities
  • Build relationships with volunteers and consultants and provide support which includes: moving audio/visual equipment and furniture for program and dinner service daily
  • Become knowledgeable about the variety of SAGE services available to participants and make appropriate referrals
  • Assist with food service distribution as needed and act as dining room host on a weekly basis
  • May be assigned other tasks and duties related to their job responsibilities.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in health science, Exercise Science, Nutrition or a closely related field is preferred. Substantial work experience in relevant field may be substituted for degree
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience in aging field, LGBTQ service or in program development
  • Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter with good organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work under own initiative and as a member of a team
  • Computer proficient, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, and Canva
  • Utmost attention to detail and follow-through
  • A commitment to the issues, constituencies, and values of SAGE

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the history and issues facing marginalized older adults
  • Working knowledge of NYC Department for the Aging regulations and guidelines
  • Willingness to be trained on SAGE and NYC Department for the Aging databases and audiovisual equipment
  • Flexible and dependable – This position requires occasional special event hours, but the daily regular hours are Monday- Friday onsite, 12pm-8pm
  • Work one weekend day for special events as needed
  • Must be willing to acquire NYC Food Handlers’ license
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Reports to: Director of Edie Windsor SAGE Center
Location: Edie Windsor SAGE Center, Midtown Manhattan
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Schedule: Generally, 35 hours/week 12 – 8 pm, Monday – Friday; with schedule adjustments as needed per business necessity.
Salary range: $50K to $55K
