JOB TITLE: Facilitator (Educational Summer Youth Program)

DIVISION: Youth Services

DEPARTMENT: Grow Detroit’s Young Talent Program (GDYT)

LOCATION: Samaritan Center - 5555 Conner St, Detroit, MI 48213 (East)

REPORTS TO: Youth Services Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt/Hourly

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Temporary

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for facilitating educational summer youth participants. Grow Detroit’s Young Talent (GDYT)is a citywide summer jobs program that employs young adults between the ages of 14 and 24. By providing early exposure to the world of work, the program focuses on enhancing educational, work readiness, and leadership skills for Detroit youth. The Facilitator is passionate about their role as a positive mentor to youth participants and serves as a productive team member and collaborator that is flexible and resourceful. The Facilitator is engaging and ready to dive in and go above and beyond to provide GYDT participants with a positive experience.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides positive leadership, ethical conduct and direction for youth participants.
  • Facilitates summer youth education workshops, explores an exciting project-based thematic curriculum.
  • Conducts daily follow-up and actively engages with participants to ensure modules and program requirements are completed on virtual platform.
  • Carries out departmental policies, procedures, and strategies to ensure maximum performance, accurate data collection and reporting, and compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, goals and objectives.
  • Provides intentional role modeling of executive function & social-emotional skills.
  • Serves as a positive adult role model.
  • Provides youth participants with technical assistance and helps trouble-shoot issues.
  • Assists Youth Development Specialist with conducting service provider orientations, coordinates with team members to assist with ensuring that all youth are issued proper IDs, program shirts and materials as required.
  • Assists Youth Development Specialist with occasional on-site pay card distribution and engages on-site, face to face with program participants as needed.
  • Assists with updating GDYT database for youth participants.
  • Updates case files and notes as applicable.
  • Contributes to the team effort by performing other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • One to two years minimum work experience in customer service or community service-oriented environment.
  • One year’s experience working with youth.
  • Working knowledge of local community services and agencies.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to build positive relationships with program participants and various support agencies.
  • Computer skills necessary to effectively facilitate educational modules virtually, maintain a database and create related reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) and online sourcing tools with functional knowledge of internet use for search platforms.
  • Bilingual Language Skills in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Mental ability to handle pressures related to meeting deadlines, working on tasks requiring concentration and attention to detail and dealing with multiple individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of need.
  • Must possess and have a valid Michigan Driver's License. Incumbents must also have reliable transportation to assist with on-site duties and participant engagement when necessary.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (evenings/weekends) as necessary.


This remote position will require that candidates have the following equipment for training and job performance:

  • Desktop or laptop computer
  • High Speed Internet access with minimum speeds of 100mb
  • Ability to connect to a router/modem with Ethernet cable.
  • Personal cell phone or home phone
  • Ability to download company apps on cell phone or tablet.
  • Earphones/buds or headset preferred but not required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time, and have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a phone, computer keyboard, and other office equipment.
