POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Operations Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Field Operation S. Belridge 

REPORTS TO: Operations Superintendent 

BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION: 

Supervise the operation of all facilities, equipment, and personnel in the oilfield. This includes responsibilities for meeting high standards for EH&S, production, and regulatory performance, as well as supporting company’s reputation in the community and driving employee performance. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organizes and directs activities in support of production operations and construction projects
  • Actively supervises Company Operators and OpsTechs, including responsibilities for annual performance management, ongoing employee development, and addressing personnel issues 
  • Supervises and is accountable for daily activities of all contract personnel within their area of oversight
  • Responsible for the effective and economical installation, operation, and maintenance of oil and gas production facilities 
  • Ensures effective implementation of stimulations (cycle steam, acid, etc.) and all other well work events
  • Assures compliance with company standards, policies, procedures and applicable codes and governmental regulations at all times
  • Assists with cost estimates, design, and construction of new projects and modifications to existing facilities
  • Supports Technical Team data collection requests and provides timely responses to engineering and management
  • Delivers monthly shipment and sales information within required timelines to Production Accounting and maintains proving and calibration schedules for measurement related equipment 
  • Responsible for delivering injectants to the reservoir in-line with Engineering Target rates, steam quality, MASP, etc. and troubleshoots and resolves surface related issues impacting injection timely
  • Manages safe and effective response to unplanned events: spills, outages, etc. and covers supervisory responsibilities during non-standard work hours as-needed (rotating weekend coverage, callouts, etc.)
  • Provides daily reports on production and operations activities 
  • Owns and actively manages Lease Operating Expense Budget for their area of responsibility and coordinates non-planned costs with direct supervisor; presents monthly LOE performance to managers
  • Coordinates activities on joint ownership wells
  • Interfaces with State, County, and other regulatory agencies as needed 
  • Conducts safety meetings and engages with EH&S Team to improve safety culture and performance
  • Actively is present in the field to support employees and hold frequent safety discussions on job sites with contractors and Company personnel
  • Frequently and routinely communicates within and across team boundaries – daily discussions expected with Technical Team members, direct supervisor, and direct reports to ensure alignment and engagement
  • Actively seeks-out, identifies, and communicates opportunities to improve EH&S, Opex, and/or production performance, including recommending changes in operations and staffing for optimization 

Supervisory Responsibilities and skills: 

  • Must have strong leadership qualities and good organizational skills; ability to assess staff and assign as appropriate to maintain the most efficient workflow and operations
  • Supervise hourly workforce of field operations and contractors
  • Intimately knowledgeable of good oilfield safety practices
  • Actively participates in Company safety meetings, prepares and presents relevant safety topics and provides for pertinent training of personnel
  • Tracks compliance of regulations and ensures proper certification of operation personnel
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people including Company I&E Technicians, Engineers, Drilling/Workover Foremen, Telecommunications & IT personnel, contractors, and vendors
  • Maintains a strong system-wide understanding of the Company to ensure alignment with Company initiatives and goals
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, Power Point programs

Requirements

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Associate degree in Engineering Science, Business, or equivalent preferred 
  • Five years of experience in thermal field and production plant operation and maintenance is essential
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience is a plus.
  • Excellent working knowledge of oil field production operations (wells and facilities)

· Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Visual and manual dexterity are extremely important for this position as is mobility to walk safely in oilfields, along proposed improvement corridors, to view potentially impacted areas, and overall safely traverse irregular terrain. Visual acuity to safely drive at night and in a variety of weather conditions is required. 

The job presents work hazards that are customary in upstream oil & gas production sites. The incumbent will be subject to performing sedentary to light work, exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, or constantly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, reach overhead for items, stoop, bend, and twist while working. Other physical activities include ability to utilize fingers to feel and grasp objects or work devices as needed and manual dexterity in the use of the hands, seeing, talking, hearing, performing repetitive motions and standing for long periods of time. Incumbent must be able to drive a vehicle, usually a car or light truck, and get into and out of the vehicle on a regular basis. Requirements include walking on uneven ground and over or around obstacles or structures such as pipes or low rails and walls, and up and down stairs on a regular basis.
