Sendlane is Hiring a Controller - Finance Near Austin, TX

About the Job:

We're Sendlane, an established SaaS provider disrupting the eCommerce industry by unifying the marketing tech stack for DTC brands with a unified approach to email, SMS, and reviews. If you're reading this, you're at least considering ditching your current gig and leveling up. Look no further, compadre. We have got a challenge for you.

The search is on for our next Controller (Remote position, but preference for candidates local Austin, TX or willing to relocate)

The position will report directly to the VP of Finance and collaborate closely with senior leadership, along with a number of external stakeholders, including auditors, tax consultants, and private equity partners. The Controller will play a key role in overseeing all accounting functions, ensuring tax compliance, and implementing robust internal controls and policies. Additionally, this role will be crucial in guiding our financial planning and analysis, as well as in managing strategic goals.

But before we get too much more into the job itself, let’s talk about you!

You have an eye for detail that misses nothing, paired with unmatched organizational skills, ensuring everything is kept in perfect order. You have B2B SaaS experience. You're the kind who takes pride (and ownership) in their work, driven by a commitment to excellence. You are truly passionate about accounting and finance and can nerd out about ASC 606, pivot tables, or the art of cash forecasting. Lastly, you like being hands-on but will be able to scale into a managerial role as we build out the finance team over the next few years.

So far, so good?

Awesome! Then let’s talk about the job itself.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all accounting operations of the company, including accounts payable, billing, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger accounting.
  • Responsible for oversight of monthly financial statement close procedures, including quarterly and annual reviews and adjustments, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analyses.
  • Serve as the internal expert to advise on accounting matters and resolve all GAAP and technical accounting issues. This individual will own the financial statement audit process and will implement new financial policies, procedures, and internal controls in preparation of such an audit.
  • Manage sales tax compliance and support external accountants with preparation of the corporate tax return.
  • Provide and support analysis on financial results (trends, performance metrics, benchmarks, departmental reporting, etc.) for management and investors.
  • Support FP&A efforts, including a weekly cash flow forecast, annual and quarterly operating plans, scenario analysis, and rolling forecast
  • Work closely with various departments to improve manual processes and implement new systems (e.g. NetSuite, Maxio or similar).
  • As our business scales, the controller will build and manage a high-performing accounting team and will be the right hand of the VP of Finance.
  • Manage various external vendor relationships (banking, auditors, tax consultants, insurance brokers, technology providers, etc.)

What You Bring to the Team:

  • 10 years of relevant Accounting experience and a minimum of 5 years managing people and elements of the accounting function is required.
  • BS/BA in Accounting required; Master’s preferred CPA and deep understanding of GAAP is required. Deep understanding of internal controls and compliance.
  • A combination of public accounting/transaction advisory at top 10 accounting firms and experience in private equity backed companies. B2B SaaS experience is a huge plus.
  • Experience working with private equity partners and managing banking relationships.
  • Obsessed about details. Strong strategic thinking and a proactive approach to building from scratch.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, adept at managing shifting priorities in real-time and handling multiple projects simultaneously. Ability and willingness to meet critical business deadlines.
  • Comfortable with using software and learning new technologies as appropriate.
  • Advanced excel skills, including building and analyzing financial models.
  • Expert user of QuickBooks, Stripe and ChartMogul. Familiarity with Hubspot. Experience upgrading finance tech stacks highly preferred (e.g. transitioning from QuickBooks to Netsuite).
  • Transaction advisory or M&A experience is an asset.
